Guys/Girls,

I have a 98' Punto Sporting 1.2 16v. I know for a while this problem has been getting worse and don't know whether it's just adjustment needed but the clutch seems fine. It squeaks from the outside of the car, you can't hear it on the inside, but when you depress and release it squeaks. What can be done to resolve this?

What grease/lubricant should I use and where do I need to put it exactly.

The squeaking is driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance.

I think it could be on the pedal itself.

Get on your hands and knees (oi! ) and stick you head in the footwell. Press the pedal down with your hand (as much as you can) and see if it squeaks where the pedal goes through the pivot bush, or where the return spring is hooked over the pedal. Put some regular (light brown) LM grease on those points.

If it's not the pedal, get into the engine room and find the clutch arm on the gearbox. The gearbox (on the right of the engine as you look into the engine room) will have a splined stub sticking out of the top near the front. That stub will have a little arm on it and the arm will be connected to either a cable, or if you're hydraulic, a pushrod from the slave cylinder. Lube up anything that looks like it's a moving part (look for areas of shininess or "wear").

Robert should be your mother's brother.
