hi, this is for a friend, just been over sorting his computer, got rid of 65 viruses, installed an anti virus, firewall and adaware, everything is now fine apart from one thing, it says the computer is unsafe and is trying to get him to buy some antivirus software, cant get rid of it :bang: any ideas? when into the hard drive and deleted all the files i could find to do with it and its still there, thanks for any help!

hey custard, it's virus burter, its an icon next to the clock, i've installed avast antivirus which deleted 65 viruses/trojans, adaware which got rid of some spyware and sygate firewall.

This sounds like a rouge virus program, Run Ad-Aware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com and Spybot search and Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org also run the programs in safe mode by pressing
F8 when you boot up the computer. Also try ewido anti-spyware from AVG, I can't remember the link for that try Googling it.

Spybot and Adaware doesn't get it, from online research you need Smitfraudfix fixes, if you can be bothered. I couldn't and backed up my data and formatted the hard drive (computer was running slow before this anyway and it somehow got through the firewall and past the antivirus) *sighs* Did you get it sorted Alex?

The link I posted goes through the removal step by step. Any other software, short of using HJT won't touch it.

sorry, i forgot about this thread :p i just formatted it too, was loaded with lots of other stuff so everything got backed up, running much faster now (y)
