Ive got my alloys lacquered up now and am looking into getting some tyres so i can get them on the car! I went into ATS after work the other day and they quoted me £180 for all four tyres and fitting.

Anyway i was wondering if you guys could tell me the best size tyres to buy and the best brand for price and quality. A good website to buy from would also be a good help :)

Thanks,

185/55 is correct size, toyo proxes are excellent in this size
195/50 is ok, goodyear eagles are good in this size as are proxes
195/45 can be fitted but sidewalls are too thin IMO and rolling radius is reduced

Cheers for the reply!

I'll have a right good look for some deals now and hopefully will get them bad boys on in no time (y)

Edit: Just been looking at some YOKOHAMA S306 82H tyres that are 185/60, they are currently priced at about £25 each. How would 60's fair on the sporting alloys? Also, has anyone ever used these yoko's?

Ignore what I've said r.e. tyre sizes, I thought you had a mk2!

Spend too much time on a mk2 specific forum.

I make the same mistake of assuming everyone has a mk1 on here because I only hang out in the mk1 section of PSC.

To the O.P.
If you have mk1 Sporting alloys, they will be 14" x 6J. The recommended tyre size from Fiat is 185/55 R14. I've had good experiences with mytyres, tyre-traders and tyre-shopper. I find tyre-shopper quite handy since it's an all-in price, so I don't have to wait at home for the tyres to be delivered. That option should be avaiable on other sites though.

Gold medal winner (185/60R14) of the March/2009 ADAC tyre tests went to the ( Goodyear-Dunlop) Fulda Carat Progresso & good value ...

... I'd be inclined to tel. 01377-252896 Boro Tyres (a Goodyear-Dunlop Hi-Q centre) for a quote on 185/55R14 & 185/60R14 sizes. The retail price should include fitting etc. at a Hi-Q centre.

Let us know the outcome.

Thanks again for the reply's guys!

Looking at tyres and from what ive heard from people the toyo's seem to be the best bet.

Only thing is what size shall i go for, the 185/55's or the 185/60's. The only reason i ask is that the 60's are about £5 cheaper per tyre, would there be alot of difference between them?

Edit: Just found some Pirelli P6000's in 185/60/14 that come at £151 delivered. Any good?

They will be wrong size to keep your rolling radius correct-ish

You wanna be looking for 185/55/14

Have you just tried your local independent tyre shop? You just might get a better deal.

Cos I replaced all 4 on my sporting last month (195/45/15) and it was £200 for Yoki's fitted and balanced, (plus waste disposal) Online they would have gone over that price without balancing etc.

Preaktwo, stick to /55 profile. /60 may be £5 a corner cheaper, but they cause the speedometer to under-read, which may cost you £60 + 3 points. Plus, the car will stand too tall on its tyres. Keep rolling radius to within +/- 2%.

Righty o, 55's it is then!

Went into another local tyre place today to ask about fitting and balancing and they quoted £17 per wheel which is a bit more than ATS at £10. He also prices up some CF1's and it came to £64 per tyre fitted and balanced.

Quite a bit more than £37 per tyre then an extra tenner for fitting at ATS.

Think i'll buy online, seems the cheaper option.

Will be quite interested to see what tyres you get and where you get them from, plus how much you pay Im planning on buying some Sporting alloys this weekend and they apparently need new tyres.

There is a place near me called Mitcheldever Tyres who are meant to be one of the best places in the country for tyres, might have to give them a try :)

These turned up on my door step this morning (9 o'clock), not bad since i only ordered them wed night!

Anyway, ive just been in town and booked the car in at ATS for fitting and balancing. Just one last question before i go for the fitting, i dont need any spigot rings or anything for the alloys as they are sporting ones right?

Dont want to turn up for fitting without the right bits :/

Can't wait to see them fitted on the car. Looked like you did a fab job spraying the sportings. When will they be all ready you reckon?

Noooooo :(

Went to ATS for fitting and that today only to find out that the current wheel nuts were too small for the alloys. So no alloys on yet; i will be making a trip out tomorrow though to find a place that sells some longer wheel nuts!

Halfrauds maybe?

Where did you get your tyres from in the end? I picked up my set of sporting alloys today and two of the tyres are nearly bald so im gonna need new tyres ASAP

Also have you had any luck with the longer wheel bolts you needed?
