Hi - just about to buy one of these great cars, but not sure about the speedo... for a UK Reg car should the speedo be mph with mileage figures recorded in miles and not Km? The garage is telling me all Bs have mileage shown as Km (I would expect Km for an imported car but not a UK reg car)?

Can anyone help please - many thanks.

As far as I know, Barchettas' were never ment to be imported to UK (As they never came in RHD). FIAT UK dealers probably imported the car and did the modification by them selves.
Since I am from greece though, I cant help you much with this. One of the UK persons can help you out on this. I think that you can get a speedo with mph inscriptions. Maybe DTR have it. (In worse case, you can make one by your self :p)

There are loads of Bs over here with klms instead of mph so thats ok its just a bit of a git converting it to mph on the fly as you approach a speed camera!!

The Bs were imported originally, as far as i'm aware, by Fiat but there was a gap til 2004. Don't know if the early ones were with mph but would've thought so to conform with uk laws. However a single vehicle import either buy a dealer or an individual would be an exception ie only headlamp conversion etc required.

Mine is a Uk supplied 04 model and as such has mph readout.

Imported cars have to have MPH instead of KPH to pass the sva test and have a converter fitted to change the speed to MPH but has the original KPH clock with MPH sticker covering the KPH one. Cars sold through the UK dealer network are all MPH from new and have a different speedo scale.

The converter changes the odometer to miles as well.

Some slip thru tho cos I've driven a few vehicles that have not had a kph to mph conversion, guess some SVA testers dont check (n)

My B is in KM/H. I have the new speedo face, but I havent had the time to swap it over. I got it from Ebay.

There's a thread somewhere here that has my attempts at changing it last year, and a bit more info.

I wonder if it affects an MOT?

I doubt it as they don't take them for a run and you wont really tell on & off the ramps.

Mine has passed an MOT every year with KPH speedo and Odo. They even write the odo reading in Kms on the MOT certificate.

Might be because DTR do the MOT? Good reason to keep taking it to them I reckon. :D

Doog.

Thanks Alan... in a nutshell then:-

(a) UK Cars sold by the Fiat Dealership as left hand UK cars have both the speed and recorded milage in mph (these cars have had the converter fitted)

(b) Impoted UK cars via a specialist garage may have the speedo with an over-sticker showing speed in mph but the recorded milage still in KLMs OR could have had the converter fitted as (a).

(c) Private importers may have had nothing done and the speedo remains in KLMS for both speed and recorded mileage (which would mean I should allow for the work to be done to correct this for UK roads).

...as long as you can view the speed your travelling shown as mph all should be fine regarding the MOT, I'm now off to see a couple of Bs knowing a great deal more than I would ever if I had just taken the seller's word for it.

Thanks... great forum
