what have i done wrong?

Today i put in some six by nines, i split the wiring from the original rear speakers and attached them to my new ones. when i firsted tested them they were fine but now they keep cutting out the whole rear half of my car has no sound, then if i switch the stereo off and on again they come back on. i only have the original stereo in there could that be the problem?

I posted the above then deleted it because I thought i was misunderstanding but now re-reading, it's 99% most likely to be correct. Your standard stereo will have a poor output compared to after market stereos. Say 4 x 20w (I don't know what it is reallY) which is fine for the small speakers (4" in the uno) but not enough for both those basic ones and the ones you have added. It is possible to share the output but only if your speakers don't take too much power. I did it for a while to have 6 speakers just playing about but as the other 2 speakers were useless I know just have the 6x9s on.

MY advice in order of costs (cheapest first):

Keep music volume low ;) (less power required)
Remove other rear speaker connections and just have 6x9s connected
Buy amp (if your stereo can take one?) and then connect all 4 speakers from the rear as that should take it.
Buy new headunit (say 4 x 50watts) - My headunit is that rating and I don't use an amplifier and can do 2 x front and then 4 x rear on the 1 rear pair of outputs ok.
