Technical Speak from clutch pedal

Technical Speak from clutch pedal

My 2012 1.2 lounge has a squeak every time I release the clutch pedal. How can I stop this?
If it is from the plastic clutch pedal and pivots a spray of WD40 or similar should work for a while.
It may involve laying upside down in the footwell to get it in the right spot.
Wipe of excess unless you want smelly shoes;)

Thanks, I have tried that with WD40 and also a silicone spray. I used the narrow tube to direct it at all moving parts I could see but no joy I’m afraid!

Is it possible that the clutch master cylinder it's self is the cause.
I was hoping for the cheaper option, are you sure you got the spray exactly on the spot.
Sometimes although hard to do , if you can put your hand on the pivot point and work the clutch lever at the same time you may locate the harshness, it's not easy but I have done it in the past, though not good for my old back.:)

Thanks, I will try again, but not sure exactly where it comes from - if I have to change the master cylinder, I might put up with the squeak!

Most likely the clutch slave cylinder. You wouldnt think it would sound as loud inside the car, but it does. Its a sign that its going to need changing at some time. We have 3 squeaky ones. I slip the dust rubber off the cylinder and apply WD40 silicon in quantity. Wipe away the suplus and replace that dust rubber. Its possible without temoving battery and battery tray but easier if you do. It seems to shut them up for 6 months. Ive had new ones squeaking too but once sprayed those have kept quiet. I sure the master cylinder ,may squeak but Ive not experienced this yet. The 2014 cat has been lubed to keep it quiet ofr 2 years and its still going fine. I do this now when I service them

I’m never sure which model people are referring to when the year is 2012 - a run-off 169 or a 312/9.
So, which model are you referring to?
I have the same clutch pedal squeak in my 2016 4x4 312/9 - I can see the clutch/brake master cylinder under the bonnet (top right) so where is the clutch slave cylinder in relation to the master cylinder: underneath, farside, left, right…? (I thought it was located near/inside the clutch housing)

OP has a noise in clutch pedal area, however it was suggested that sometimes a noise can come from the slave cylinder which as you say is at or in the gearbox bell housing area.:)

Mine is the 312 - the one with the squarcle instruments and the square window on the asides at the back

I hadn’t thoughtnof suspecting the space cylinder. As far as I can see the clutch pedal acts directly on a connecting rod which goes into a rubber into the engine bay. I assume that rod connects directly to the master cylinder

As you say pedal connects directly to the master cylinder, so noise is most likely where you suspect it is coming from , however as was suggested some Fiats have noise coming from the slave cylinder and they apply suitable grease.
As we are not with you it is up to you where you can hear the noise from:)

how if it’s at or near the bell housing?
If you want to split hairs "at "would mean a clutch slave cylinder outside the bell housing bolted on and "in" referred to where a Concentric clutch slave cylinder is used which is mounted around the first motion shaft where it protrudes from the gearbox "in" side the bell housing to directly actuate the clutch assembly.
As the OP mentioned the noise was around the pedal area, then a noise from where ever the clutch slave cylinder is less directly relevant, however it was mentioned in general, that the slave cylinder can be quietened with suitable grease.

I believe the 1.2 has an external slave cylinder, according to ePER. The MultiJet diesel has a concentric one inside the clutch housing. Don’t know about the TA, but as the OP has a 1.2, don’t need to know :)

My older (2005) 1.2 4x4 used to squeak but only when the weather was cold. Never did manage to cure that!

My 2013 Landy Defender also squeaked when I bought it earlier this year. That turned out not to come from the pedal pivot, but the pivot on the actuator rod (it too is a hydraulic clutch release). The only way I could access that was from a plate under the bonnet, above the pedal box. No such access on the Panda

How could I be “splitting hairs”?
When I used the “at” word I was simply quoting your use of this word (you previously claimed I’d used this word in your earlier post).

But, more importantly, you posted that “some Fiats have noise coming from the slave cylinder and they apply suitable grease
Do you actually have knowledge/facts on this, specifically:
1. where precisely is the clutch slave cylinder located? (312/9)
2. “they apply suitable grease”, do you mean servicing/repair mechanics or owners like the OP and me (in which case I and the OP obviously need to know exactly where to find it)

ok, so you don’t know where it is actually located? (for the OP)
Possibly it’s located in the same place as the 169 1.2?
Don’t know about the TA, but as the OP has a 1.2, don’t need to know :)
except I would like to know since I have a TA 4x4 with the same squeak issue 😮 (previous post) so if anyone does know then this bit of information would be most gratefully received! 😊

There’s not a ‘rod’ between the pedal and the clutch, but a plastic pipe filled with fluid (actually, brake fluid). If you can see the unit into of the gearbox, then you have an external slave cylinder.

Rather than ‘angry typing’, try this forums wonderful ePER system (link in top menu), which is the Fiat parts catalogue. You will be able to see which type of slave cylinder you have from that. (I’ll take a look in a mo and post the answer, but not so easy to use on the phone and away from my laptop)
However, personally I’d really doubt you’d hear a sound from the gearbox end from inside the car as the pedal moves - that is more likely a mechanical/friction sound from the pivot, or air needing to be bled from the master cylinder

Update: ePER indicates that the 4x4TA has an externally mounted slave cylinder. But to be sure, go take a look. If you see a cylinder on top of the gearbox with a hydraulic connection at one end and a metal rod in a rubber gaiter at the other, then you have an external cylinder. If instead you see the hydraulic pipe going off inside the clutch housing, then it’s an internal, concentric one. Simples :)

Here’s what the external one looks like. On top of the gearbox, engine end, under the battery…

If you trouble to read the full post from the beginning you can see a contributor has mentioned the use of grease.
