Technical sound system repeatedly cutting-out

The sound system /USB etc on our 2013 500L repeatedly cuts-out after a couple of minutes, then re-boots after a short gap. Any ideas if this is a soft-ware issue??

The entire sound system unit, including built-in sat nav & USB connectivity etc cuts out for around 15-20 seconds, then re-starts; - most peculiar & irritating; has continued for some time now. Local Fiat dealer suggests running an expensive diagnostic, but don't seem confident this will identify the cause.
