It's one of those Fiats that has eluded my ownership over the years, but probably the one that I have wanted the most. Always put off by the insurance costs when I was younger, I never took the plunge.
Now a fair bit older, I've grown bored of run of the mill **** boxes and owning an MK1 Punto sporting last year has had me lusting after fun cars again. Being that bit older, my insurance is sensible and I can afford to insurance a 20vt for almost the same as what I'm paying for a 75hp 1.4 16v Lupo.
I'm not looking to buy a 20vt though. Just the 2.0 20v. As much as I would love the turbo, I don't want the running costs associated with them. The 20v engine is a fine thing and it's just the 5 pot rumble I really lust for. The 150hp from the N/A model will suit me perfectly and should, theoretically, be quite reliable.
This is what I'm here for though. How much heart ache can I really expect from a 20v Coupe? I know they are aging cars and with age comes bills but is this not essentially a Bravo HGT underneith? And they never had any major reliability issues.
I have checked out FCCUK for any advice and whilst there is a very handy buyers guide, it seems to focus mostly on the Turbo varients and is hard to guess whether the points raised are also related to the N/A varients.
So, what should I really be looking at on a 20v asside from the usual stuff to check on the second hand car. Are there any specific weak points in the 20v n/a or is it just a matter of checking service history, cambelt etc, having a test drive and laying down some cash?
Any help appreciated
