Ok I've just fitted my so called 40mm PI lowering springs to my Cinq Sporting and have found that although the front is LOW (No suprise there then), it is perfectly fine, BUT the back has been dropped so much that with one just the driver in I only have 1cm of clearance between the arch and my tyre. With two people in the tyres catch the arch but only on corners, and you have to drive like a granny round them so that they don't catch.

I've got 195/45X14 tyres fitted to 14" Fox Racing Evo 2 alloys and have cut the real bump stops down by about 15-20mm. My dad's Cinq has Eibach springs fitted to his and although it isn't as low as mine he has nothing cut off his bumpstops.

I was wondering, I'm going to order new bump stops and leave them at their original length. BUT can ANYONE help me by surgesting anything that I can do to stop my arches from catching my tyres.

I wanna keep my alloys and tyres for definate as they cost me a small fortune, and being a Uni student I'm tighter than a ducks backside with what I spend my money on, well apart from DRINK, my car and women obviously, (but then again thats student life isn't it????? OR is that just me????)

Any help on this matter would be great, thanks.

Brian

Does anyone know of any good bodyshops arround the Durham/Sunderland area. I can live with the ride height as it is for the moment, it just means I would be able to give all my lady friends lifts to where they want to go. Well not all at once anyways. ;)

Also does anyone know how much it would cost to roll the rear arches? Also what exactly do they do when they roll them. I don't want the external look of the car to change. Is it just the the inner arch that gets rolled.

I once heard that Halfords will roll your arches but only if you go to one with a ripspeed garage. IS this true or am I just hearing things???

Hope someone can help me out, thanks very much.

Ok thanks 'Donz',

All I need to know now is first HOW MUCH is it going to cost and secondly, WHERE near Durham or Sunderland can I get it done???

I hope somebody can help me out.

Thanks for your help so far

£120 OUCH, I was expecting it to be quite a bit less than that.

Has anyone had their arches rolled? And if so where did you get them done and how much did it cost?

Hope to hear from you soon.

PI will drop by more than 40mm.

If you put original bump stops back in, it may just sit on them. My black one was like this, sitting on them front and rear, and it makes the ride and handling CRAP. If you want to run low, you need them chopped.

Can you space the wheels in a little? Check for clearance on the inner side of the arch, you may solve it with slightly thinner spacers (if you have any fitted and there's clearance).

My black one had the rear bumper, delocking and various paintwork done at a place called KTD in Dunston (0191 4608400)

No problem 'Brian',

i'd have told you how much it cost or where to get it done, but alas as i always do my own arches i don't know.

and perhaps next time you should SHOUT less, people will respond better [:p]

Yeah I could sell the PI springs but I am happy with the fronts and they don't cause me any problems its just the back thats giving me problems. (Maybe its because I'm to heavy :I, no it can't be that, I'm only a thin lad:))

I could sell the rear springs by themselfs but that means getting hold of only some rear springs and that could be quite difficult.

'Pete', I'm going to order some new rear bump stops on Monday, so I'll put them back in.
The front doesn't sit on the bump stops at all, I've trimmed them down by about 20mm (I chopped off the part below the little narrow bit as U recomended, thanks for that :))
Also no I don't have any spacers on my rear wheels, wot a bugger or what? So I can't move the wheels in slightly either. Do you think that if I put new bumpstops on the back, and it rested on them when going round corners that would cause any problems, I've looked and I don't think it would sit on them on the flat.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

'Donz', first of all, sorry didn't mean to shout:I, just trying to show exactly what I wanted to fine out.
Is it hard to do the inner arches yourself? What exactly do you need to do? Do you think you'd be able to give me any info about doing the arches myself? That would be very helpful thanks.

I understand that any medal I cut or bent etc would be needed to be treated to protect it from corrosion etc.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks a lot

so far i have only ever done the arches on nova's!

first time round i cut slits about 4cm apart on the inner lip of the wing, and bent them up flush with the inside of the wing itself., carefully tho , so not to crack the paint, then touched up the inner part with some hammerite.

second time it was 17's and a different nova, took the angle grinder and just cut the lip off entirely, but the car was being resprayed anyway.

of course these are nova's and piles of s**t, that even if the wing falls off you can find three new ones in every scrappie.

doin your own cinq might be another story entirely, even structurally it will be different.

i'd find someone to do it for you!

I've just had what could possible be a great idea, I don't know if anyone has heard of these but I was looking through the Demon Tweeks Catolog and came across these Splitfire Sport Spring Adjusters.

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/catalogue/product_detail.asp?PCODE=S/FSF1315&GRP=RP036&PGRP=R003&CLS=ROAD&from=search

I was wondering if anybody has used these on any car to stop the tyres from touching the arches, because I will be putting them on the rear springs I couldn't really see any major problem with fitting them and they shouldn't effect the cars handeling that much, should it?

Tell me what you think, especially Pete as he seems to know the score and sounds if he knows what he is talking about. But any help would be greatful.

Thanks a lot

I have had my arches rolled but you have to be very careful as you can crack the paint and also bend the arch so it all ripperly!
A mate of mine did it for me who is a pannel beater he only charged me £25 for the rears but i think i heard somewhere that its £25 per corner.

You are proberly best off to ring round a few places first.

We didnt have to do mine flush just about halfway. all you do i get a nice big hammer and covered the head is masking tape and he used like this big metal block covered in masking tape as to not scrach the car and put that the the out side of the arch and hit away on the inside then touched it up after

If your car is on the stops under cornering load and you hit a bump, that's when it can all go pear-shaped. Thing is, you need movement to soak up the bumps or you can get all unstable and have 'undesired' results.

In all honesty, this is why it's a pain in the bum fitting wide tyres/wheels on centos. They just ain't designed for them.

I'm dubious about the spring assisters, as it will hold certain parts of the spring spaced apart but put extra stress on the remaining bit. Might be worth a go though, but the arch rolling is prob'ly the first port of call.

I'm not really a car 'expert', just older than most of you on here and have done stuff before. Best not to ignore the advice of others - they may have tried things I haven't.

Oh I always listen to what other people have to say, its just with U being a Cento Oldy (Not saying ur old, just older than most of us, not my much thow, I seem to be digging myself hole now, No offence meant Pete).

I've ordered the spring compressers so I'll see if they help the problem.

Thanks for everyones help.

Once again Pete ur right.

Thanks
