It is a great pity that Savile didn't get chance in life to either defend himself, or face the consequences of his actions, but it does seem as though he was not the "saint" he was reckoned to be .
I can truly say that I always thought there was something not right about him.
Does anybody else think the same?

I was going to start a thread about this the other day, but wasn't sure how to word it.

You have to wonder - why did these people only come forward after he died?
I wondered the same at first, and tended to think that they were pobably "groupies" who got what at the time they were hoping for at the time, from a mega star of his day. A bit like the girls who hang around trying to catch themselves a footballer today, and then sell their story to The Sun.
And there is no doubt that the situation at the time was very different to today. The term "paedophile" was hardly ever heard until the last 15 years or so.(Maybe I've lived a sheltered life!)
However, now there are horrible stories coming out about what he doing in hospitals with sick children etc and I think it's gone way beyond the "groupie" scenario.
It seems that a lot of women did try to do something about it but were simply not believed at the time as he was such a huge star who was literally raising millions for Stoke Mandeville and Leeds General Infirmary in particular.

I see now the daily mail is trying to posthumously blacken the name of john peel as well...by bringing up the apparent fact he had a consenting relationship with a 15 year old groupie while touring...not quite in the same league as forcing yourself on those who are in no position to resist, but sad all the same.

Yeas I've seen this as well. Just had a discussion with Mrs Codger about this and she says that the two situations are completely different, even though the girl was only 15 there was no coercion involved, so it is different from the Savile situation.Let's see who else they will turn to next:
DLT? Edmonds? Ed Stewart, Tony Blackburn (surely not!)

Tbf with John Peel it does not appear that it was any thing other than an isolated incident, also the person involved was entirely aware of what was occurring, as to whether or not it was prudent to ask for photographic id and a birth certificate before fooling around...well let's say times have most definitely changed and I'd be willing to bet you could find 100s of young girls who did things they shouldn't have done with people from the music industry in the 70s.

Saville on the otherhand appears to have been a total wrong-un and if you believe in that sort of thing will probably be being toasted somewhere very very warm.

some were believed, it was then passed to social services who failed to act, social services say they were not informed. did jim fix that :chin:

Family took down his gravestone a bit quick, makes one think maybe they knew something was up all along?

As I understand it I think he only had a nephew and that's the extent of his blood family.
I tend to agree with you though about the speed with which his headstone (or 3 of them) were destroyed. They bore the words "it was good while it lasted" seems a bit prophetic now doesn't it?
He also had a Range Rover with a full-sized mattress in the back ! Did nobody think that was a bit odd, and pitched his caravan in the grounds of a school for bright but "troubled" girls!
You couldn't make it up really could you??
Considering all these activities we are hearing about, plus the marathons he ran, and the cycling, pluis he always had a cigar on the go. He certainly had some energy.

Kiddyfiddlers tend to be in positions where they have 'power' over people. In this case, it was the 'star' or 'celeb' & later the 'hero'.
And, then you get the "you could tell, but who do you think they would believe? A little girl or me, a superstar".

Jimmy also threatened people with his mob of 'heavies'.

I've met him a few times at SMH & felt him to be a bit creepy, nothing you could ever put your finger on though.
Also seen him many, many times, wandering around SMH. Even though he was supposed to be a porter, I never saw him doing anything & he always had a few groupies drooling over him.

A good friend is a nurse at SMH & had met him when she was training back in the late 70s. He used to tease her about her 'mumsy' figure - which more than likely saved her from being touched up.

Interestingly, very few locals have a good word to say about him, all the women who ever met him say he was creepy or 'slimy' & that he would take every chance he could to brush past you or stand too close.

And whilst he may have raised pots of cash, he never did anything if he couldn't get publicity for it - and so, the power!

Sorry I had to post it :ROFLMAO:

Didn't take long for all the photoshops and jokes to appear all over the net.

Mrs Bean is logged onto mumsnet at the moment. They are really having a good ding dong over him, digging up all sorts of things that have credible sources. Suggest you have a look.

Was he ever a freemason? My point being that it was hushed up so well for so long that he must of had some very powerful influential friends in high places - like the freemasons.

Was he ever a freemason? .

He was a 'celeb' and too many people fawn all over 'celebs'.

We had some moron round here opening a fete over summer. Soon as he turned upo he was like a spoiled brat, expecting everyone to stop what they were doing & look at him. Apparently he made a brief appearance on big brother or x factor or some such crap.

The only people I look up to are the ones who do all and say nowt.
