General silly place for k&n

Heard loads of people that have had their k&n fly off and not realise. Its the stupid locking mech they use.

Too tight = pushes k&n up and off
Too loose = works its way off
If you get the rubber seal right to the bottom and tighten it up quite tight (not really tight), they you'll find that it shouldnt come off again!

I didn't realise either, which makes me ask the question... Is this thing that good?!.... I dont rate it, it makes a nice sound and adds '3bhp' (roughly?) , but for £70-80 its a bit of a rip. When the k&n isn't on, is the engine getting damaged? This is a bit of a risk eh, and we pay money for it (n) .... I am getting a standard one put bak on asap, until i can afford the gsr.

without a filter you risk getting lots of stuff going into your engine, is not very healthy at all  (if you've ever cleaned a filter and seen the stuff that comes out, just think that stuffs going straight into your engine  )

Exactly, thats why we should boycot the k&n!... if the thing falls off then loads of bad stuff would get into the engine (n)

I found the Ractive heatshield induction kit to be quite good......till i drove into a puddle and knackered the engine....

Best thing to do is make sure there's no oil or grease in the bottom lip of the filter or on the throttle body when you tighten it up and it should stay put.

Rubber won't grip on oil, as you may find out if you combine rubber clothing and baby oil.

oops, back on topic. Probaby the best way to keep it on would be to fit a bolt or two down through the top into the original airbox mounting holes. Must admit I haven't checked to see if they would appear in a handy place on the top of the filter though.

:eek::eek::eek: Pete, you scare me.

The K&N on my Punto is held on by a massive jubilee clip that clamps it onto the SPi unit, and I'm assuming its similar on a Cinq Sporting as it's the same engine.
Mine used to always pop off; my solution was to clean the rim of the SPi unit with carb cleaner spray, and also wipe around the inside of the K&N where it fits the car with a damp cloth, use a bit of fairy liquid but make sure you wipe it all off as that stuffs slippery too. I also roughened the surfece on the SPi unit witha bit of emery cloth to make it grip better, and tightened the jubilee clip right up. It's never come off since!
DON'T use the carb cleaner stuff on a K&N as it dissolves the rubber bit, as I found out

If it aint staying on you aint fitting it right!

Forget K&N's instructions though as they say give it two turns or summit, BS!

Rump it up to a point but not too crazy, make sure the jubille clip is at the bottom and is even the whole way round, if you can't get it to stay on then use the orignal air box bolts and drill holes through the top of the K&N but make sure it's air tight there.

See Gex's filter for what I mean.

on the older k&n's this would go through the actual filter, however on the newer ones could probably get away with it as it would come through the top, one thing ive always wondered mind is do those bolts being inside it affect the air intake? as it might provide more resistance?
