For the past week or so I've been intermittently getting shocks from the driver side door only on exiting the vehicle. Not sure if it happens across the entire body of the car but will check this.

Couldn't find any previous posts about this but wondered if there is any earthing points I should check first? I've just lived with it for this week but I got a helluva shock just now via key into my finger tip. Been numb for about 5 minutes.

1.2 Active Sport 3dr Hatchback 2003 only electrical mods are aftermarket head unit and an insurance tracker big bro don't go speeding box.

Hi mate,

It will more than likely be due to a build up of static electricity rather than an electrical fault per-se. Could be as simple as the clothes your wearing, seat covers etc etc.

Back in the 80's everyone drove around with these:

on the back of their cars in an attempt to reduce static shocks.

You dont have HIDs fitted do you?

What's that picture? Can't make it out. I'm a late 80's child so it just looks like a bit of metal with a red triangle

I don't think I've got hids. Headlights right? I cleaned mine up as per the guide a while back and took pics. See below:

Sorry if it's the wrong angle. I can take more pics tomorrow if it helps.

I've bought new trainers a week ago - maybe that's something to do with it :(

Could well be your trainers!

Yeah you wont have HID's so dont worry about them.

And the pic i posted is of an "anti-static" devise that everyone had attached to their cars in the 80's. It hung down at the back like a tail and was supposed to discharge static electricty to the ground to prevent you getting a shock!

Cheers Alan, I'll wear my old trainers tomorrow and see what happens.

Was just a little worried as I'm planning on doing a boot light mod. Off topic, but is there an 'always on' 12v supply anywhere in the back end of the car that I can run the lights and a switch from?

I remember those strips. I was told they was incase your car was hit by lightning, but I was young was did not question it.
