Technical Shocks - condition

Hi All,

Looking at buying some shocks from Sweex on here.

He has shown me some pics but he has concern that the rear shocks strut is rusted/corroded at the top.

For this reason, he has left the decision to me however I have no experience with shocks.

If anyone can advise whether rusty struts is a concern, it would be much appreciated.

Just so everyone can see here is a couple of pics.



Looks as though the garage maybe used a clamp or mole grips to hold the strut still to get the top mounts off?!
Although i feel that part of the strut wont pass through the shock body, it is a concern to me that they are corroded.
I have advised him that there are other rears on ebay.

Cheers MEP. You reckon they will be ok with rust at the top? As said, it shouldnt pass into the body anyway?

Only surface rust, so should be, especially if that section doesn't go into the shock body.

my 95 chinq sx suffers from noisy tappets when cold and I was wondering if I used a fully synthetic oil it would help or would I be wasting my money.

Well it shouldnt do. Lol. Id be worried if the springs compressed that much!

Thanks for the replies all. Turned out I had my rear shocks sitting in the shed, but still helped as it confirmed mine were in good condition too. Cheers all
