beware though that other companies dont honour this, you will need to take out a policy with the same company to get the benefit

And a lot will offer it as discount but you won't actually get the NCD. And as Dave says, in a lot of cases you will be bound to that company in order to keep any NCD offered.

Insurance companies never give anything away without a catch somewhere.
