Serious Power Problem

Ok, its a 1.4. Not the fastest i know, but its helped get my insurance back in order.

Went to pay my old dear a visit so trotted down from Surrey to Essex, cars going fine when cold, then it warms up and there is a serious lack of power, took about half a day to get to 70 !!!

Also noticed when its warm, and you try and start to car, it doesn't crank as well as cold, it kind of cranks like when a battery is almost flat or something.

Any clues Guru's out there ?

Re: Re: Serious Power Problem

Odd.. you fried the battery with all your ICE?

Re: Re: Serious Power Problem

Hasn't been serviced in a while, i know something that needs doing, just wondered what else it could be.

Battery is ok, i believe. Is only around 3yrs old. When you crank it sounds flat, and thats only when car is warmed up, once it goes it is fine, apart from this power loss, its like something is really holding it back

Temperature guage is sitting in the middle, or maybe one above. Nothing excessive

hmm.. oil change? Something must be holding the engine back.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Serious Power Problem

Did think the same, but i thought i would double check.

Cheers

does power drop more with dipped lights on? If it does then it could be alternator not giving enough volts to spark plugs.

Err... no :) The coils are designed to work with anything between about 9v and 14v. If it was a spark problem like that he would suffer missfiring, bad starting.

You missed his comment about it being slugish to crank over when its hot. Its related to something else.
