Hi, my sporting has a few problems (i think it's reacting to the new mx-5)
Anyway, sometimes the handbrake will not release.
I put the car in reverse and the right back wheel is locked, forward is not so bad (drivable)
Handbrake lever will not pull up.
Then ..the lever releases, wheel is free.
When the lever is free it does not work the handbrake (it needs the slack taking up)
I fitted the cable about a year ago.
Do you think it's a cable problem or rear brake problem.
Many thanks
Mike

The brake is operated by a mechanical lever with a pivot, the pivot will freeze with corrosion, the lever is connected to the cable with a clevis pin.

Off with the drum, in the past people used to strip drums every 3 months...

Once they corrode it is more difficult to keep them working.

If you get new ones try and work in copperslip grease into pivot and then wipe off any excess with a rag.

Bad me for not checking the rear shoes ...
Totally gone on one side.
New ones in now, love that bottom spring.
Need bedding in but, not locking up now.
Thanks for all your advice
Mike

But the goats are still on back order at Fiat. Fluffy doesn't stock them either.
Its ok for you with your fancy disc rear brakes, but us poor people running drums and goats have to check the cables and remove droppings every 10,000 miles

more frequently than 10,000 miles, otherwise the pivots may seize
