My Sei is slowly taking shape, i fitted a JVC head unit and autochanger in yesterday. Only trouble is it sounds crap! It needs better speakers that can handle the head units power output. What size are the speakers in the dash? Also where is best to fit the rears without going for the parcel shelf route?

Cheers for that, Looking at the grilles (I haven't had time to take them off yet) they looked like they could be ovals. 13cm's is good as I have some alpine components that will go straight in![8D]
I want to keep the rear shelf as standard looking as possible so I may have to settle for a hidden pair of 7's or 6x9's in a custom shelf.

If you want to put the grills back on, which incidentally hold the speakers in place, then 13cms ones won't fit.

I put some JBL GTO45 (I think) in mine. They are 4" and were a squeeze but so much better than the "Polish" ones I took out.

Such a shame, FIAT put in a nice Clarion head unit but skimp on the speakers! I want to keep it as standard looking as possible so it looks like 4"ers then. I'll have a play this weekend, my missus says my car is my real valentine anyway [8D]
Has anyone ever heard of Accoustic reasurch speakers? I've been offered some 6x9's for next to nothing, they look ok and are really really heavy, heavier than any other 6x9 I've encountered by quite a bit.

As it is valentines day on Saturday I thought this would be relevent:

"A 6x9 is still as crap by any other name..."

That's what's strange about these accoustic reasurch speakers, they have crossovers attached. They have a proper tweeter and small midrange with crossovers.

My Sei came from the factory with a 4x50w Sony head unit, and two 20w speakers LOL Distortion anyone? ;)
I'm now running 80w Xplod speakers in the front, which sound like they may have blown - 80w my arse [V]

Broom yellow 2001 sporting, with Abarth kit, delocked, ICE, Tints, ITG filter, and err thats about it!

i have some funky 10 cm pioneers in the front they are orange and look really good behind the grills. sound ok to 80watt max with onboard tweets...

also have a sub in a box in the boot... i agree with what most ppl say that you dont really need 6 x 9s in the back as it sounds just as nice in a cento with some good quality ones up front and ya boot full o' base.

toldu xplode boast. they write like 1000W on their cheapest tweeter or sumthing when if u actually but 1000w thru it ud end up with liquid speakers.

MarkG go 4 dearer components and scrap the 6bys on such a small car u can get away with no rear fill

then get a sub and amp if u wanna pad out the range of sound

Im running an Xplod sub- says max of 1200W - pah, maybe for (1/10000000000000000000000000) of a second!

Actual RMS is at 300W...So max cant be any more than about 2.5 of that- 750W at a guess!

It is a definate boast...

Accoustic reaserch are superb! we've got the home cinema setup from them and the quality is excellent! It's all down to what you want to fit at the end of the day:)

There's a certain satisfaction you get from driving over a Sleeping Policeman

Yep, been looking at their stuff and it is very nice....disconcertingly cheap though...not put me off though!:D

AofB,
If RMS is 300W then peak can only be 600W.

I have a 2001 sei sporting with the 50x4 watt sony head unit and standard front speakers. What would be the best upgrade? I have no clue about audio, what brands are the best, how easy are new front speakers to fit, can it be done DIY with little knowlege? Is it worth buying 6x9's for the rear shelf??

James :)

Magnecor, K & N, Bosch, Peco all buzz words of my sei!

debends on what you want...

centos are small cars u dont need a lot of sound to fill them... if u like bass get a bass box and a 2 channel amp (bridged) just to run the sub. if you get a decent sub it will sound really good. then for the fron get sone 10cm speakers i have some pioneer ones power those off ur head unit (some ppl amp them, they sound ok stock tho..)

or if u like more dance type music without base go for some speakers in ur shelf and no sub..

only in my opinion... others may (probably will!) say diferent...

Ah..Erm. I retract the previous statement,

But bring in a new one. Just done RMS and Peak level conversion.

Peak is RMS * (Root 2) so for a 300W sub yure talking:

300 * 1.4142134 = 424W (3sf)!!! [)]

@JR - Front speakers are a pig to get in and out, but to install is just swapping 4 connections over. Rear speakers are strange, If yu just want some good sounding speakers fairly cheap, 6x9s are OK, but If yure really bothered about Sound Quality, go for components, but they cost much more!

Best thing yu can do is go and listen to some in Halfrauds and decide from that..
