just started today, drove about 6 miles into town, then my car started idling really roughly, and there was drastic lack of power when trying to move off, it just really wanted to stall, and sounded really rough and labouring. and general lack of power throughout all gears... quite worried.... any ideas please?

Sounds like its not running on all cylinders?

Check (or replace) spark plugs and ignition leads.

im hoping it is this. it happened before, and one of the plug had no gap, so wasnt firing.
but it seemed odd that it just started happening after about 6 miles?
any views on that?

Try the ignition first. After 6 or 60 miles, it has to go sometime.

got new spark plugs and leads. all seems good. better than before i think
