Technical Sei Gear Box Issues?

depending on the fault code triggered, starting the car 3 seperate times, without the fault triggering the code, will cause the light to vanish (y)

this doesn't work with all stored codes, but does with lots.

Running without IAT and MAP will be giving the car so VERY funky fuelling and ignition readings. Best not to do it lol

Resetting the ECU prob won't remove the fault, and worst comes to worst, you will need to reset it.

Trying to diagnose it is tricky, could be anything! You done stuff like compression test on it?

Ecu is unplugged and resetting as I type (as per other post).
*EDIT* - Ecu has been unplugged for approx 1 1/2 hours - plugged all back in, and ecu light still on permenant :(

*As for a compression test - not 100% sure how to do it tbh!

*Had the HG changed and head was skimmed, cambelt & bearing was done at the same time.

*Had the timing checked out for good measure - twas spot on.

*Changed plugs and leads - Champion eons and magnecor kv85's.

*Swopped MAP & AIT for known good scrappy parts.

*Cleaned crank sensor - for some reason I thought I'd swapped it out for a scrappy part, but it turns out that the scrappy one is in my box of parts - and is now knackered as someone dropped something on it at an angle and it's snapped at the base.

Also read up on the supposed ecu failures in early mk2's - Can't seem to find the ecu code on mine - presume its a unit out jobby.
I have the small ecu - and nothing in the (100% complete afaik) service history collected by the 1 and only other owner, would suggest that it's ever had the ecu changed.
From reading these posts it sounds like my juddery idle and poor performance could possibly be ecu / coil related - will know more I guess when I've checked the ecu number, and had chance to swop the coil packs out.

I'm pretty convinced that the dragging and poor down changes are clutch related - but gonna treat that as a separate issue for the time being...

Any thoughts?
What's a compression test all about then?

Sorry for the bump - wont let me edit the last post for some reason?

Anyway - just been out messing with the sensors again.

Swopped them over individually with engine starts in between.
Map sensor (the one at the top, or first you come to working down into the engine bay? is this the map? - held in by two torx screws?) now back to the one that was originally in the car- started engine, code light still on.

Swopped AIT (at least I think that's what it is - directly below the first sensor, held on with a "C" clip) - (I had replaced this but idle went really low and rough, so swapped it back to original one - idle went rougher) -swapped for scrappy one (from a known good running engine) - and tried engine start.
Bit hesitant on first start - but no code light.
Started perfectly 2nd time - no code light.
Idling currently at a steady 1000 rpm - still a little juddery (think v8 power judder!), but not taken her for a run yet... will report back with results - in the meantime, anyone who knows about the obd port in an mpi sei - any chance you can check my other post?

:) My day is looking up :)

Is there a fuel filter that needs replacing ?

that had crossed my mind - although alegedly it was changed at last service (though I'm beginning to doubt my usual garage now).

Got an obd2 reader on order, and gonna see what errors have appeared since my last ecu reset.
Got a funny feeling this is all gonna be something really simple like tdc or coils - feels more like an ignition problem than fuelling - it's just that the end result is inconsistant fuelling (feels like she's running dry) at steady (higher) speeds.

People keep saying to me "bear in mind it's only a 1.1" but my 899cc cinq never ran this bad!

Front brakes sticking closed? the dirt could well just be brake pad dust, which you won't get I would imagine from the drums.

if u were going to change the clutch and stuff :p, might as well drop the whole thing out :D then might as well change the engine :p

Anyway good luck in getting it back up the way it should!!!!!
Ming

...we'll see.

As mentioned above - got an OBD port reader on order, so I should have a clearer idea of what's happening when that's arrived :p
