Hi,

Got my the new driver seat base during the week. The garage fitted it no problem, but I just wonder how long it will last as there is a design fault.

I would check the side of the drivers seat to see if the foam has started to break away. If you look under the seat you will also see little bits of foam if it is broken.

Thanks for that!

I will look in the morning - although bound to find so much other cr*p in the car and under the seats.

This design fault - in what respect?

As you get into the car you normally have to slide over the outer side upright of the seat base. This is fixed over a tube in the seat frame, which means the foam is bent over the bar as you slide in. Unfortunately it isn't that flexible and the foam cracks. You can normally see a small line in the side upright part of the seat base (the outer side) where it is cracking. It then get biggers and a hole forms in the foam.

A lot of them have already been replaced on all the Eurovan versions. I would take a photo but it has been fixed now. The seat base and foam are all one bit. It doesn't make it uncomfortable, but it would really start to show wear in another year or so.

Well I've had mine for 1 year 3 months, I'm 18 stone, and I've driven 28000+ miles in the thing (but alas no longer as I'm now in the US and the car was a company car in the UK), but there was no sign of a problem with the seat foam when I cleaned it up prior to handing it back.

I wonder if there's an issue with particular types of seats?

It' not just me then (Waccer Read Any Advice?) Asked over 3 weeks and still waiting.

Can anyone recommend a good dealer in south east essex, other than Tommey Fiat. The staff are helpful, understanding and end up not doing much else.

I'm glad I'm not alone, I too have had the drivers seat replaced, at 18months and the passenger one is now showing similar signs of degradation. I'll be honest, the only thing that makes me feel good about my Ulysse is the warranty (3yrs) and the fact I bought it off a guy for just under 14K less than he paid for it new! The finish and quality is really quite awful. having now spent 3 months with it, I wish I'd bought the 2.3 petrol Galaxy I test drove. My fault though for not listening to everyone who said steer clear!

Oh well, c'est la vie

Funny you say that - I took an owner of a 2.3 Galaxy for a 180 mile round trip the other day, and he was impressed with the whole package - for starters, the mpg was a lot higher, and also the increased oomph [although mine is remapped].

First post - so glad to discover this forum!
Have had 2.2 JTD Eleganza 04, 13K miles for 3 months now - replaced HDI Picasso, prior to that Galaxy TDI. Paid £14k for it from dealer.

Seat foam - noticed it on 1st one I test drove - quite visible.
My current car, not noticeable, other than bits of foam on carpet. Will definitely put in under warranty.

Stuart - interested in remapping - sorry to go off foam topic - but do you get improved mpg, and if so, what do you get?

cheers

Hi Noddy and welcome to the forum :D

Interesting about the seat foam, still not noticed this yet, and car had a major clean at weekend to go on show at Stanford Hall.

As for the remapping, it will totally transform the JTD - the mpg on ours is pretty screwed anyway, due to fact it is used on school runs, and come weekends I tend to use and abuse it, to give it a good smoke out. I think current mpg is 33, although higher when car is taken long distances - remember, I only have 5 gears.

There are a few threads about this - I will go searching laters.

Thanks Stuart

I only have the 5 gears too - but like you, don't get to do long journeys much, so mpg is fairly lousy. Mine looks just like your Ulysse in the picture - same colour.

Have read your other posts now on remapping - will contact this Angel place
when I have spare cash (who am I kidding - like never).

thanks for swift reply - nice to know this forum is alive (like the picasso one).
Had been worried - think I must have the only new shape Ulysse in Norfolk!
thanks
Nod

Oh yes, this forum is alive :D Have a look in the Gallery, we had our first car stand on Sunday at Stanford Hall, under the FF.com banner - 32 cars on the stand, it was great (y)

Nige from Angel Tuning is a top bloke; he has already done quite a few Ulysses - I went for the mad Italian, lol.

5 gears - ooo, I know Rich on here has 6, just presumed yours would to.

BTW, do you have Nav+ as well?

Thanks - no, just the basic connect - very jealous of yours - looks great :(

Have just posted a separate thread on my connect - still learning to use it even now - don't get enough time with 3 little 'uns!

(y) :D
