OK, currently building my Scudo up and one thing I need to get straight before too much is built is the speaker placement (so that decent wires can be run!).

I'm NOT after anything OTT - but I do want a fairly decent sound, playing mostly rock music.

I'll look into a sub as I go along (most likely find somewhere for it in the back), but for now I'm looking at these speakers (in the 6.5" version) :

Mounted here :

But as the pic says - I take it the standard size for these door speakers is 6.5 inches? I've measured them, but I guess it depends whether you measure the cone or the cradle......

Also - I'm also all for removing the foam - I'm assuming no vibration issues there?

The beauty of these speakers (as far as I'm concerned) is that they have removeable tweeters, so I was going to mount them here to give me a better sound stage for the high stuff :

Now - I'm also after some 4 inch speakers like the ones listed here :

And I was struggling to find anywhere to mount them - until I thought about here :

If the pic isn't clear, this is the bit of the headlining just at the back edge of the front doors, where there's plenty of clearance to mount the speakers.

Now, I know this is quite flimsy, so I was thinking reinforcing the headlining with a ply backing and making sure the space behind was filled with wool to control the sound....

Now - questions....

Given that I don't intend to run any of these speakers off amps * (I'm just going to let the HU do it all, because I'm cheap) - are these speakers OTT for what I want?

If so - similarly priced alternative ideas would be great.

So - being a total novice at all this, I'm open for suggestions about placement, speaker recomendations and anythig esle you care to offer.....

Cheers

:slayer:

* the sub, if and when used, will run off another amp - I'm not that cheap!

The listing of the speakers has been removed.

I would say that they are 6 1/2" speakers yes so you should be fine with any component set.

I wouldnt bother putting small speakers up in the head lining. Firstly because you will completely ruin the stage and create a messy sound. B because it wont be the right environment so you will effectively only be geting the highs from those speakers.

I would thoroughly recommend even a small amp and a bit of sound deadening. It will make no end of improvment. (y)

Like i said you will be geting sounds coming from all angles hitting your ears at different times so it will be messy and horrible. You would be much better off spending the money on a cheap second hand amp.

Also avoid theloudest.com like the plague. They are rubbish.

Well its a good job you came to this forum then isnt it.

I will have a look and show you some better ones after work. (y)

One thing that i will say. Without an amp you will find it very difficult to make a difference in volume on a budget. The standard speakers have a very high sensitivity so work well off of a low power. Aftermarket ones have low sensitivity and need more power to get them working.

Any other news on how the front speakers went? Does anyone else have any ideas as to improved speaker sound in a scudo?
