Hi everybody

I've come across this forum, in the hope somebody may be able help. Sorry if I have posted in the wrong place

I've been shopping around for a new car, mainly looking at three cars, Fiat 500, Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10. I was looking to get a new car under the scrappage deal... the only way I could afford to do it.

Hyundai and Suzuki both told me how many places they had left on the scrappage scheme, I think they both had two or three places left from the allocated amount.

I decided on the fiat (aah, it's looooovely). However, the dealer seems to be running the scheme in a different way. They said there is a scrappage list, and my name will go on this list. If there are still places left on the scrappage deal when they get down to my name, I will get the car. If not, I can have a refund on my deposit, and cancel the order

Does this sound right to everybody else? The more I think about it, the more strange it sounds, and everybody I have talked to have said the same.

Fiat have said it will take up to 2 weeks to find out if I am getting the car (n), by which point I won't be able to get a car from anywhere else either.

What does everybody think. It sounds dodgy to me and I am worried. I want to know if the cars mine or not and show off the pictures to all my mates.

I've tried the Fiat live chat to question this but they were not able to help. I've also sent an email to customer relations but still awaiting a reply.

Thanks for reading.

When the Scrappage scheme was close to coming to an end the remaining funds were distributed amongst the manufacturers based on what percentage of cars sold up to that point they had supplied.

Some (like Kia, for example) then dished out their share between their dealer network so that each had a specific amount of orders they could take. Others (like FIAT) just made their whole allocation available to all their dealers on a 'first come first served' basis until it ran out (which happened just before lunchtime last Friday).

Now, FIAT are accepting provisional orders, again on a 'first come first served' basis, on the assumption that there might be some funds left (and yes, it could take upwards of 2-3 weeks to find out). If there are any funds left the orders put in the system from Friday afternoon last week onwards will be allocated £2,000 in order. There are no guarantees that anyone that placed an order from last Friday will get any money at all.

Some manufacturers (although not FIAT) are offering their own alternative to Scrappage, which is why some dealerships will still accept your order despite the official Scrappage scheme being basically over.

That's really helpful, thank you. From that it looks like I won't be getting the car then... damn :(

It's impossible to say whether you will or not, but to put your chances in to context there are already 180 people on the waiting list...

So it's pretty unlikely then, wish I had known this before ordering, I wouldn't have bothered...:(

When did you place your order?

5pm Saturday. Before ordering the salesman told me I would find out on Monday (today!) if I had the car or not. It was only after I had put my order in and he checked will a colleague that we found out it could be up to two weeks.

Don't suppose anyone has any inside info regarding this??

This two weeks is going to be hell, I've spent the last couple of days staring at my phone waiting for THE call.

I just want to know if I am getting my pretty little car

You seem quite 'in the know', if you find anything else out could you let me know please, would really appreciate it.

I can't believe how obsessed I have become with a car, I have turned into my dad

As of 5pm yesterday FGAUK stopped accepting provisional orders, so Scrappage is well and truly over.

Hopefully we should find out if the orders placed during the Exit Phase have been successful or not next week...

Many thanks for the update.

I received a phone call for the dealer midweek, he said they were hoping to find out by the end of this week whether I had got scrappage or not. He also said he thought I would get it, though obviously couldn't say for definate.

Got to 4ish yesterday and I couldn't wait anymore (end of the week to me is Friday) so rang up and asked if they had heard anything. They said it's out of Fiat's hands and they are just waiting on a response from the government which is sort of what I already knew.

Just got to carry on waiting now...

The message on the FIAT Scrappage Portal this morning is...

All orders on the waiting list as of 5pm on 12/03/2010 are within our Phase 2 Allocation

ALL THESE ORDERS HAVE BEEN RESET AND WILL NEED TO BE RE-SUBMITTED OR CANCELLED BY YOU.

...so it looks as though you should be O.K (y)

Scrap that (pardon the pun), dealers just rang me, can pick the car up on Wednesday :D:D
