hi all took my punto for mot and it failed on emmisions

noticed bit of blue smoke from back so i checked plugs etc no oil on em but they were a sutty black gave them a clean and now hardly any blue smoke.

so it seems as though it is getting to much fuel any ideas why or how i repair this.

also would this cause high emmisions

any help very much apreciated

thanks
steve

Hi Steve, First thing I would look at would be air filter probably needs change but if you give mileage and when serviced last I am sure more knowledgable people will step in with advice.Lincoln

hi thanks for your reply last service was 7 month ago bye me usual replacement ie plugs and leads air filter oil filter and oil also replaced one coil

mileage is 43,732

also forgot to mention b4 i only do town driving and the car has been stood for about 5 month

also every now and again while driving id loose power for a few secs then it would come back

hope this info helps

thanks

steve

hi sorry i dont know the answeres for you but i am having a similar prob with my punto ie rich mixture but i am not getting the black smoke just black sooty plugs oh and a mot fail due to high emmisions can someone please tell me if having a rich mixture causes high emmisions and if yes would a new cat and lamba solve this problem or is it a guessing game as i have been told by a few people even mot guy said no one knows which is not very helpfull

any help much apreciated

ps i have serviced it ie plugs filters oil etc even a new head gasket

car has only done 40 to 50 on clock

so at min im scratching my head as to what the problem is

i would guess at it being the lambda sensor

also every now and again while driving id loose power for a few secs then it would come back

does the injection warning light come when this happens? the lambda controls the air/fuel mixture. if its running rich and hesitating like that, then i would almost certainly say its the lambda.

don't get one from fiat tho, they charge around 70quid, i paid 43 for mine from a local garage.

hi thanks for your reply i have ordered the lamba sensor and cat i took exhust of today and i should say the cat has gone cos the insides fell out some will be because how i nocked it of but it was rackling before i even hit it. if cat had gone would this cause the high emmisions.

the lamba sensor is a pain to remove.

hopefully when i fit the 2 items it will pass mot fingers crossed because after this i am out of ideas.

and no no warning lights come on at all
thanks
steve

Blue smoke may be caused by engine oil, may want to try and find out what is causing this as it will only get worse... this shouldn't fail the car though... New Cat and Lambda should see it good.
