Hi people ,
I bought a Ripspeed DV-725 head unit from a friend of mine on friday for £70. This morning i went to fit it into my MK1 punto, it slotted in perfectley turned on and played cd's but i pushed the button to open up the 7" flip out screen and it only opened up half way and hit just below the heater dials. Its doing this because of the angle that the head unit goes in. But im wondering is there any mods i could do to get it sittin level so i could then use the screen. Im quite handy with tools and i dont mind cutting holes and using filler as long as i can get the screen to flip out properly.
Also has any one else bought this head unit if so how did you make it fit properly.

Thanks.

I think you answered the question yourself really. You need to rebuild the console so the HU sits where you need it too. By chopping and Fibre-glassing. My advice is to give it back to your friend, unless you have children do you really need to go through all that effort to show off to the people at Mc Donalds Car park for like 5 minutes.
You certainly dont get any respect for ripspeed DVD units in the Real ICE world. :yuck:
Sorry to be a wee bit harsh but that is my honest opinion.

Thats gotta be the single most unhelpful response to a post I have ever seen on a forum, and from a moderator..

Anyway, what mk1 punto do you have? If you havent already why not get the sporting centre console? You could fit it in the slot that that provides. Or alternatively if you are brave try in the top vents - but that would require some fabrication.

Whatever you do, dont make things too tight as it will squash the mechanism inside and make the screen prone to sticking.

I encountered the same problem fitting an Alpine CVA-1004r in a Fiat Coupe.. that took fibreglass and swearing to sort it it the end.

Best of luck

Im just trying to be honest. If he wants to go ahead then thats fair enough, and i didnt realise the GT console sat different.
Whatever path the OP chooses to take i will still help when i can. (y) It just seems like a lot of work for something that most likely only has a few months of serviceable life left.
Alpine is a different story as they have more than a years average life span.
