Dave; i also got this email and thought it was about time! It has been like this in the USA for some time. I personally agree with it, I am always annoyed by sellers saying 50p plus 5% of whatever when the actual cost is always lower (just like charging £6 for postage when the real cost is 50p!) I know ebay make a lot of money but i can't see how this will make anymore really? All it will mean is that the price of items will rise slightly as people either bid higher or reserves are set slightly higher in order to off set the cost. It won't mean lower prices etc. will just mean extra convinience. Then again, I have sold on a few occasions and would have been annoyed to lose out on the few pounds that paypal would have cost me.

Seems good for buyers. I don't begrudge ebay any money they are not a public service they are a sucessful business - people don't have to use it if they don't like it.

I got email too.

I have never charged buyers for Paypal - I even have a 'Pay with Paypal - It's free' logo added! Check out my sales, id is DemonD8 :) - probably won't interest you lot though, but have got a lot more to put on.....

Hmmm, at the end of the day, though, you know when you bid what total cost is, including surcharges and P&P. You can also send a cheque off if that is allowed, fee free. If not, don't bid!

I only charge a token amount for brown wrapping paper and tape. Now invested in some digital scales, coz messed up a few times [V]. Some guys charge 50p min, or 4%, which is a rip-off.

At work we try and use recycled packing, so we hardly ever charge for packing - only if it actually DOES cost us, but most of the time is free.
Afterall its a charity - we dont force people to use paypal - it's there for their convinience, so if buyers choose this option then obviously they should pay for this facility.

10 mins, darnit, oh well, I don't reckon it would look cool enough for a cool guy like me to drive ;)

I usually use paypal because say the cost is 60pence, a stamp costs half that, envelopes add a few pence and then my time plus petrol up to the post office must make it worth using PP IMO - I just think it makes sense to use it in that case and also it is so quick compared to waiting the best part of a week for a cheque to clear!

I always do my best for postage but for me it is usually difficult to estimate accurately and I can't afford to lose money on postage! I do usually recycle one of the numerous jiffy bags I receive and don't add much for this. The worst people are the ones who know it will just require a stamp yet make the P&P £5.

I agree totally with this! I never charge for paypal however I sued to charge for cheques as its costs me fuel to go to the bank, 70p parking and 35 minutes!

If you take funds out of paypal over £49.95 its free to take the money out and as a % the fee is not too bad.

In an ideal world postage could be added after the item has been sent to make sure it's exactly right!

but it takes away the choice, people can pay with paypal and pay the fee if you tell them before they bid, or if they dont want to pay they can send a cheque. when ebay stops sellers passing on the fee then they may no longer offer it as a way to pay.
if i sell a few thing for just a few quid and the people pay with paypal i get charged the fee plus it sits in my account untill i pay to get it out or i get £50 in there so i can get it out for free, so they are getting the intrest on that money aswell!
before i started using paypal and i wanted to buy stuff and get it quick i got a postal order that cost extra!

I can also agree with what you are saying Dave, it is a tough question.

I watched a program yesterday (like rouge traders) and they said that electronic funds transfer between two bank accounts takes 3-5 days because the banks transfering it use it in transmit on the overnight markets to make money out of your money, how cheeky!

I reckon people will just start adding on a few extra pence [well, 10 or 20p] to P&P costs, get hidden that way.

I have sold a few items for 99p - only thing it is worth to me after costs is the rating!
