Technical Reverse light not working?

I have just gone to change my reverse light bulb in my mk1 punto, however I've changed it and its still not working. I've checked the fuses and they are fine so i'm not sure what it could be? I've tried more then 1 replacement so it wasn't a faulty new 1 that was put in. Any ideas?

Check the reverse light switch on the gearbox.

It's under the battery tray on the gearbox itself. Should be towards the front of the gearbox. They are prone to corrosion and the wires tend to perrish.
