I don't really think it shows his passion for cars, it shows he wants an abarth, couldn't have one for one reason or another so pretended he's got one by replicating it. All he's done is bought all the abarth bits, all the styling is done for him by the abarth folk, any monkey could buy all the abarth bits and fit them.

I'm not saying it looks bad, because it doesn't.

I see what you are saying, but at least he can sit back with pride and say, i done that, after all if reps were so bad then we wouldent buy aftermarcket alloys, spoilers stereos etc, after all they are to improve the looks of the car in the owners eyes, which is what he has done, i bet you dont have the same opion of say..... painted brake calipers.....but they origonate from rally cars to help dispers the heat, but you wouldent say to mr blogs who has red callipers, see you have a replica rally car..

i seem a bit of a moaner today, sorry, just one of them days, im only saying this coz i wanna arbath

I know what you are saying, and yes he's probably happy with the look etc, and like I said it doesn't look bad.

But I think your camparison with red calipers is a bit far, this car has the sole intention of looking like an abarth and wanting to be one. It has abarth written on the side. Colour coded calipers are usually to go with the colour of the car or to make them look like performance ones (replicas again). My calipers are not painted red though.

I just think that if you have an abarth replica and someone asks you "hey, is that the new abarth?" you are going to look like an idiot when you say "actually I just bought all the abarth bits to make it look like one"

It's not an abarth so it's a big fat wannabe in my eyes. I'm not one for overdone styling with no power to go with it.

I think a sporting with an abarth engine is cooler than a sporting with abarth kit.

Death to Wannabe cars... they so detract from those with the courage and spondoolox to buy the genuine article, and should be crushed, as well as making the user / owner look a prat to the more informed!

OK OK a bit extreme but hell WHY?

If you want one get the genuine item... its like fake clothes and watches IMO... No cred...

About 25 years ago I spent a small fortune making my MK11 1.3 Escort like like an RS2000 so I cant comment, but looking back I think to myself..what a waste of money and more importantly what a tit I must have looked to those people who could recognise a genuine RS2.
Nothing wrong with owning and driving lookalikes I suppose, the genuine enthusiast will always spot one.......the sad bit comes when the owner starts telling people its the real thing!
