1.2 Dynamic '04 plate.

Thinking of replacing the Radio/CD player in the car. I believe it's the standard Blaupunkt unit. No MP3 compatablity.

Is there a conversion kit available to fit a standard size unit out there and to fill in the huge void that would be left behind.

Also, are the connectors and wiring standard, so not much cutting, crimping and fitting required?

Hiya,

You will need something like one of these - http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=panda+facia&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Personally I got Halfrauds to to fit my new stereo, if you are doing it yourself there is an allen key bolt deep down, you will need a long key and a lever as you have to undo the sod !!!!

Mine was don 1/2 price as I brought everything from them.

However I had to tell the brain of Britain how to undo the the lowest allen bolt, using a ring spanner to turn the key was beyond his comprehension !!!!!

Still give him 5 years and he might learn how to use a razor !!! :ROFLMAO:

Thanks to all for the speedy replies.

Yeah, what I'm thinking is replacing the Blaupunkt for some other unit with mp3 compatability. So I'd probably use a single DIN unit and then have a blanking plate for the other half and then add some 12v outlets, possibly with a hidden psu behind the plate with few fascia mounted 5v usb outlets too.

Also, I'll prob. run a cable down the length of the handbrake console to the rear and fit a double 12v outlet.

Electrics I'm fine with, used to be an electronic technician many moons ago. (y)
Mechanics.... forget it! :bang:

:) this is what it will look like...

Thought you couldn't put them in another car once it'd been paired to the original?

Nope - I bought a secondhand C1V2 MP3 unit from another car, plugged it in, bashed in the security code, and it all works (including steering wheel buttons) fine...(y)

Think the issues arise when installing into a non CAN BUS vehicle - Although the CAN check can be switched off to get round this...

For mine I had pretty much a straight swap but as I had little hands it was me who had to trap my hand down the back part. I had to get a connector from Halfords as well.

(I swapped a sony CD player out of a ford transit)

I have the standard Blaupunkt unit from a 100HP, which has MP3 compatibility. For the right price, it's yours. Its seen about 5 hours use.

Is this unit still available by any chance? Really keen to fit a working MP3 Fiat unit into my 4x4.

Please could you let me know.

Thanks,

Phil G

you could go to ebay.it and search for panda mp3 and you'll find at least two FIAT PANDA MP3 head units.

Good call - found this on UK eBay from an Italian seller willing to ship. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250410517502

Before I rip mine out and throw it away, is there anyone here who can confirm that the unit I have will never work with the external MP3 flylead and blue-connector, despite the pin-out picture suggesting it should work? When I press CD button twice, nothing happens...... Might have have the wrong firmware, or is my unit so poverty-spec that it has no concept of an external source (it has External Volume in the Audio menu for some reason).

This is really doing my head in!

Thanks,

Phil

Looks like ebay.it have quite a few at the moment.

Is it fair to assume that if I buy one with MP3 compatibility, it might also have a CD Changer facility, as well as the ability to play MP3s when written to CD?

Sorry for the constant questions, but I just want to nail this once and for all and I'm hoping some of you have been through this before!

Thanks,

Phil G

go to the oem area on blaupunkt's english website and the spec sheets will tell you which changers work with the mp3 cd head unit.
I expect it will work with whatever changers the original one worked with.
cd changer won't play mp3s, only head unit will.

dipole,

Thanks for the updates. The OEM page does indeed show the headunits for Pandas, although there are clearly a number of different types and no two ever seem to be the same! The ones on eBay have MP3 written on them and look almost the same as mine (single labels on the buttons etc). The BP OEM page shows units with double labels on more of the buttons and I've seen some of these types for sale too. Quite which car they fit I'm not too sure.

But.... all I want to do is hook in my MP3 flylead into the CD-Changer blue plug on the back of the headunit, and I hope the eBay MP3 labelled ones will allow this. I have no CDC in the car, but I have a blue plug with wires that I assume go nowhere...

There have been loads of posts on the FiatForum about the BlueSpot lead and how it replaces the CD-Changed car plug and allows MP3 from phones/players etc. But it doesn't work for me on my current unit. Hence trying to find one that will work....... Maybe.

Thanks,

Phil G
