Ive had to rent quite a few cars over the last year, in Britain, so heres a review of some of them, all "brand new" cars:

1. Green Ford Fiesta, 1.2 - sluggish, underpowered, flimsy and uncomfortable, worse it looks like the mark one fiesta with a few extra panels. The lowest point of having this car for a mere 5 days was the pain it gave me just under my left kneecap - the driving position was AWFUL.

2. SEAT Ibiza [ no idea engine size ] - pretty car, red, one of the latest shape models and drove smoothly and pretended to sound racous when pushed, sadly when you looked at the speedo it wasn't fast. The handling was precise, pleasant to drive. The only negative being the VERY HARD VW SEATS ( all VW seats are hard, why? ).

4. Fiat Punto 1.2 Active - OK so this was basic, it was nippy and about as good as the SEAT to drive, the interior was dissapointing compared to earlier FIATs ( e.g. Bravo/Brava/Marea ) but one big advantage over the SEAT, your bum didn't feel like it had a seat pattern moulded into it by the time you finished. Handling could be taughter but the car otherwise ok to drive. Exterior, my goodness, FIAT for GODS sake paint all wing mirrors same colour as the car, because then we don't have to see these ugly plastic extrusions that spoil the looks of an otherwise stylish car.

5. Fiat Stilo 1.6 - This was a bit more like it, the in built technology was good, it had 6 gears ( why? ) but the engine feels flat, especially compared to my Marea 1.6 which would have trounced it easily, without breaking into a sweat. Negative points are the CRUDE plastic that is used on the top of the fascia, FIAT it might cost more to make the interior of the Stilo but that plastic is just awful. It was a 5 door and didn't handle that well, to be honest this was a BIG dissapointment.

6. Nissan Almera 1.6 - Shocking car, dreadful, sluggish, uncomfortable, the gear stick vibrated and it was too easy to get into the wrong gear ( this car was picked up from Hertz with 50 miles on the clock ) and it is NOISY at motorway speeds, NOISY and HARSH on acceleration. This is not in the same league as its compatriots.

7. Ford Focus 1.6 - Comfortable, to a point, still same left knee pain problem as the Fiesta ( am I ergonomically unsound or something? ) and handled well, only problem is totally gutless. My ex-ex-ex Girlfriend had a 1.1 Fiesta that had more guts than this. Plus its fugly.

8. Ford Mondeo 1.6 - Worse than the Focus, slower, corners appallingly in town and does not like potholes. Rattles at speed. This has been poorly screwed together, the Skoda Octavia and Skoda Superb are both better cars.

More rental reviews as I think of them, later! :)

I think the SEAT Ibiza came out top tho, for shame FIAT.

If the Stilo had 6 gears, it wasn't a 1.6, it was either a 1.2 (pre 2004) or 1.4 (post 2004)

First person I've heard critising the dash material!

It was still faster than the Focus 1.6, I just assumed it was a 1.6 because of the power :D I can forgive it being so crap in comparison to the Marea then ;-)

When my punto's ecu went and i broke down, i got a '53' VW polo hire car. I didnt want to give it back, i would have swapped my punto for it no problem. Youre right about the seats tho, they are hard but i got used to them in the end. The 1.2 engine with 65 bhp felt alot more torquey than my punto- i had a car full (admittedly slim girls) but i couldnt feel they were there, as i would have done in the punto. Also it had the best lit up dials in the world, cool blue colour. But best of all the cabin was silent, even when i went over the biggest of bumps not a rattle to be heard :D

I think i'll break down again 2moro so i get another ;)

my cars have been:

i had a M reg fiat punto - was being repaired so i got:

W reg fiat punto - i think it was a 1.2 - it was ok, found the interior nicer than the punto i had at the time. it was a nice drive too, although before i didnt really like the mark 2 style but i did enjoy driving this one - er i also backed it into a wall oooops

black bravo was having the engine repaired after cambelt went

Nissan micra - 52 reg, was the worse car i have ever driven - i have no idea the engine size but i hated every minute of driving this car, some of my friends got sick of me moaning while i was driving and said it cant be that bad - they drove it and was as bad as me for calling it lol :(

black bravo dies :(.............

corsa 53 reg, 1.1 - this was a bad car to drive - very slow, but this coud have been coz i was used to the nippy 1.6, it was a solid car though. :(

corsa 53 reg, 1.2 this car was much quicker than the 1.1, even for the litle difference in engine size - i actually enjoyed driving this car, it was comfy and quite a solid ride :)

My job gives me access to the following ultimate driving machines!!

53 Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 - God awful dash plastic/gutless in anything over thirs gear/ infuriating non-cancelling indicators and wipers/ to easy to stall owing to bad clutch action.

52 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 - handles like a wet fish/looks awful/feels nippy bur isn't/makes me look a bit girly.

52 Citroen C3 1.2 (I think) - handles like a dead wet fish/ if the seating position were any higher i'd need oxygen/ you can literally pick aprt the dash/ make be look even more of a girl.

I have asked finance to order a Lamborghini Murciealago Roadster (they declined saying it wasn't practical)
