General remapping a jtd.

General remapping a jtd.

If you go for a 170bhp remap I think it'd be safe to say you'd feel the difference.

Alfanige is the best guy on here to speak to, he knows his stuff as he has his own company, Angel Tuning.

Stilo TURBO!!!!(diesel)

You´d probably be pushing it with the 170 HP remap, at least as far as the turbocharger is concerned. 150 HP is probably a safer bet.

Why would 170 against 150 reduce the life of the turbo.... it still spins at the same speed. What does reduce the life of the turbo is not allowing it to spin down at the end of your journey.

Why would it be a "bugga" when selling it?

Why don't you come for a demo - beleive me you will notice the difference between 115bhp and even 155bhp. You will also notice the improvment in economy too.

Alfanige, I never said he wouldn´t know the difference between 115 and 155 HP. The difference will be huge. That´s also the reason I don´t advocate going to 170 HP. There´s no need. The turbo does not spin at the same speed when you increase the boost. That´s why there are many VW TDi and 1.8T engines getting their turbochargers replaced at 60.000 kilometres. I am switching to the new 1.9 Multijet soon and will not be going past the 180 HP mark specifically for that reason. Furthermore, I have no doubt about your expertise Nige, since people have been praising you here since the day I started reading these forums and probably for quite a while before that. While there is no doubt in my mind that you can safely and reliably tune a 115 JTD to 170 HP I would be worried about the longevity of the turbocharger itself, as it would be operating a good way out of its maximum efficiency range.

Nah, the turbo is fine, it still spins at the same rpm most of the time. They are good for well over 250hp, its only the bearings afterall. YOu MUST let it spind down though - I can't put enough emphasis on that - and still some people rev their JTD's before they switch off!

Let me know who you found to tune the MultiJet as its an EDC16 ECU which has a crack code on it that hasn't yet been cracked safely and I will check them out.
Cheers
N

Yes, I meant the bearings. A small inconvenience for an informed car nut such as ourselves, but some pretty scary stuff for your wife if she´s driving it :D. I know about the spin-down issue, but there are too many people who are simply not informed enough. Maybe you should start selling turbo timers with your remaps. About the ECU code, I´d have to ask a friend of mine, he told me about the company that can tune a Multijet. Does the Stilo have extra protection over a 147 JTD?

alfanige, how much is it to remap a stilo 115 jtd to 170 then? also excuse my dumb ass-ness but how does this improve economy. final question... is there anyone on here whos had there jtd remapped?

Sorry Alfanige there already tuners that are testing the new 16v jtd engine and set a limit on 172 hp just question not blowing up your engine !!

Yes there are tuners already testing, but its not released yet - the same as us. Squadra are a good company, just too far away. 172hp limit - to stop blowing the engine up ...nah they are set at that becuase of the manifold pressure limiter, thats all - same as the 8v. You can go over that if you have a decat, but you are starting to get expensive now. Oh and I can't even start to translate that lot.

We have found in 9 out of 10 cases that the remap has improved economy because the engine is running more efficiently and you use LESS strain on the engine to get up to speed quite simply. If you CHANGE your driving style becuase of the map, then expect a drop in economy.

It doesnt f**k your engine up - YOU f**k your engine up. If you drive around balls to the limit everywhere you will reduce the engine life anyway remapped or not. Sorry if that sounded like I was teaching you to suck eggs but its an obvious statement missed by a few here.

I dont know what the top speed is as we have never tested a customers car to that extreme We had a customer in France who tested his Punto JTD to 235kmh after a remap and thats the smaller turbo.

We can return the car to standard at any point FOC.

More important than 0-60 times, how about 50 - 70 as below....

RUN 1 (PRE TUNING)
S G-Force ft
50 - 60 3rd Gear 2.70 0.15 218
60 - 70 3rd Gear 3.32 0.07 318
Combined 6.02 0.11 536

RUN 2 (POST TUNING)
S G-Force ft
50 - 60 3rd Gear 2.47 0.19 198
60 - 70 3rd Gear 2.63 0.14 252
Combined 5.10 0.15 450

thats 86ft shorter to pass a vehicle.

At the end of the day, you either want your car tuned or not and if you tune a car AND DRIVE IT HARDER you will put more wear on something obviously. If you dont want the full 170bhp, then we will put on 155bhp for instance, its flexible to your needs. I have 195 on my Alfa, simply becuase I find 210 too harsh for everyday use. I have 130 on my punto which we will start to bring up to 150 in the near future as its a fun car - its all down to what you want it for.
