Technical red warning light - r reg punto

HELP PLEASE a red light has come on the left hand side of the dash board - next to the speedo. there is also a burning smell inside of the car.

it will be the coolant temp light ! prob thermostat less likly the water pump (touch the radiator it will be cold!) if its hot then the the thermoswitch which turns the fan on or the fan its self has gone! mine smelt to but think it was oil or something next to the hot Engine!(no idea but all is well)

The radiator has no water in - is it boiling away or leaking?

fill it up and check for leaks ! thats prod Y its overheating!
