Hi all, I wonder if you can help. I’ve just been to see a mk2b 1.2 16v. It’s going cheap & all big jobs (cambelts, clutch, brakes) have been done recently but it’s showing some warning lights.
1. Power steering works fine but is showing a red light.
2. Engine management light is on orange.
3. The odometer/clock is flashing.
Any ideas what these could mean & if it should be avoided?
Thanks

Hi,
Impossible to tell without putting diagnostic software e.g. Multecuscan on the car. Could just be a weak battery or bad ground lead. Could be power steering, battery and engine. I assume it's a private purchase?
I would not say these lights mean it's not worth buying, but you are taking a chance. The price should reflect this. A copy of Multecuscan, ELM327 interface and adaptor leads is less than £100 (need a windows laptop too).

Thanks Robert, it is a private sale & also on eBay, finishing while I’m away with work, so was thinking of making an offer. I don’t have diagnostic equipment or time before the auction ends unfortunately so might just throw an offer in and see how cheap I can get it.
