Key Code Help reqiured

Hi

Im a new member to fiat, i just bought my first car since passing my test its a fiat punto N reg 1995. it only came with one key. i wanted to know do i have to go to a specialist to make a spare key because of the key code that appears on my dash or can any usual key makers do it. Please get back

im glad i read this post i only got a red key when i brought my car and have been using it for a wile i read this a just poped down the local key cuters and they cloned my red 1 for a blue for 18 quid

Apok hit it on the head with his post, I've read through this entire 7 page thread, and whilst being slight enlightened compared to when I first arrive, I'm also incredibly confused. Answers to the following would be handy if someone out there knows them all?

• The red key isn't important until something goes wrong, right?
• The red key 'wipes the car's memory' only I do not understand how or why it does that, it'd be nice if reasons/explanations were given along with claims like this.
• Where does one get a red key from, assuming they don't have it for one reason or another.
• How does buying precoded blues off ebay work? Do *all* punto keys fit punto ignitions? What about door locks?
• When you say 'cutting' do you refer to programming, or actually cutting a key to physical match another, or both?
• How does reprogramming the blues 'in 30 secs' work?

I'm totally new to the world of Punto, and getting quite confused by it all already

OK here is the problem...
Bought a marea yesterday and when we got it the battery was flat and had to be jump started. The airbag light is permanently lit and the dealer says it is because the battery went flat and the ecu needs resetting.

OK took the red key and discovered that it only locks anbd unlocks the boot. Does not fit the ignition, front door locks and is therefore NOT the orignal red key. Soooo what do I do? The dealer is insisting that the airbag has NOT malfunctioned since the bulbs are gone and the injector light is flashing. Is he talking a load of codswallop to stop me from getting the RAC to tow it all the way back from London to Leeds tomorrow and should I just send it back there and tell him to get it sorted at his expense as he has mis-sold the car? or can I drive the car with the light lit up as the ecu just needs reprogramming. Or do I get a new ecu, ignition and keys installed and how much will this cost me? I am disabled and really need my car. Does a flat battery REALLY cause the ecu to stop working properly?

yes if bought from a trader then get him to fix it. if its bought off a private seller then you have to fix your self

and no a flat battery should not cause any warning lights to come on

NOW if i want a spare clone key from Timpsons do i need to take my non excistant key code card (trader never gave me one) for it to start the ignition? OR do i have to contact Fiat for my key code? If so do the charge for it?
PLUS will this spare Key ONLY open the doors..If i put it in the ignotion will it immobilse the car?

How does all this work?

I can point you in the right direction as I lost my Red Key to my Fiat Bravo HGT a month ago. I found a guy who will give you a spanking new red key and a spare Blue key for the small sum of £70 only. He does this by removing your ECU unit. All together he did this in a hour and a half while I waited" he even makes a great cup of tea and I watched how he reprogamed.
You can even post it to the chap or do what I did and head to his home in Leyton Buzzard" 40 miles outside London. Call Fiat Data Recall on 01525381745 or 07949507353.Its quicker to go in person.

A lovely chap and has a clever set up. He even reprogramed my remote fob key which was faultly. A decent service at that price.

I've just bought a 1997 75 sx Punto as a replacement for my X1/9
o poor trade off but not for long.
However i got this car for <£400 of the street and got 1 Red Key and no Blues.
The problem is the red key is only half a red key
its the bottom half of the key (like if u were to take it apart to replace battery maybe?) not knowing puntos i dunno if it's meant to house remote locking but if it is can i get a replacement without talking stupid money?
I've always wanted remote locking

no it don't have remote locking unless fitted in witch case it don't have it in the red key

right mate

i have a 2000 on a v plate mk2 punto

i got 2 BLUE keys and no RED

***BUT***

having researched this you only need 2 BLUE keys for a mk2

no red

both your BLUE keys should have a little triangle and a 2 stamped on the metal bit

you only need a red if you have a mk 1 punto on any plate

hope that clariffies it a bit

what you have to worry bout tho is the head gasket!!!!!

i have an 04 plate punto and one blue key, i went to timpsons to get a spare made and they said they cant do it as it is an encrypted transponder and i had to go to a fiat dealer. after reading all the posts here it seems a spare can be made...do i buy a blank blue and then ask the key cutter to code it with ff 81 2c 07 5f 4f 74 c6 or the other code ff 81 2c 07 9e c7 cb 7e or are these codes for older fiats or a differnet model? or should i call fiat?!
Any advise would be apreciated!

Hi,
I'm not technical and need help
Have bought 2005 registered Bravo Abarth (OK HGT with badges...).
Has 2 blue keys
Keys operate door/boot/ignition OK but not cenral locking.
Was told car was probably personal import.
FIAT UK has no registered info on codes to reactivate central remote locking.
Enquiry by main dealer to Italy has produced response "0000" likley to mean no record.....
Any suggestions on how to get remote central locking working? Copy to [email protected] appreciated.
