However it looks dangerously close to the tyre it’s supposed to be protecting?
I also gave the Service Manager a letter claiming damages under The Sale of Goods Act, for the other broken springs and some other problems on the car, which I have paid for out of my own pocket.
I told him if I did not receive a satisfactory resolution to these problems within 30 days I would issue court proceedings.
I will now wait to hear his response. :chin:
I have decided to
NOT have the "Spring Catcher Mod" fitted at this time because as far as I can see this will actually target the broken spring remains towards the inner tyre wall, I strongly feel that this is more risk than to allow a broken spring to displace around the remaining un-guarded strutt base plate.
Replace your original fiat springs with aftermarket type as they certainly can not be weaker than the failing originals
As prieviously reported I have submitted complaints to VOSA and have also given other facts and information (including remains of broken spring) relating to this very poor remedial action from Fiat.
I do hope you get a positive response from your dealer and that this situation may change for the better before some poor motorist and their family get seriously injured.
I do urge you to think twice with regards to having this mod fitted, or at least for time being.[/QUOTE]
I totally agree with both you and PNL, that the real solution to these breaking springs is to replace them with different springs of a better quality.
If you look on the VOSA website you will see that the breaking spring problem on the Multipla, is also being described as a result of intensive use of salt on our roads, however in this case, Fiat are replacing the springs with those a new type?
Why are they doing a bodge job on the Stilos! :bang: I personally think the answer is related to the number of recalls Multipla 10230 cars Stilo 44100 cars. This speaks for itself.
As I said in my last posting the Stilo bodge job looks dangerously close to the tyres it is meant to protect, which concerns me,

however I do think, as PNL’s dealer advised him to have this done to cover himself against Fiat in the future. It is important from a legal point of view to have this done as soon as possible, so that any future damage, injury or God forbid,:worship: loss of life, is placed squarely on Fiats shoulders. Otherwise they will, say you have contributed to the problem by not having this done.
I am also considering having one of the leading motor vehicle inspectors in this country, look at my car and the last spring, which I kept. This is not cheap at £195 but at least it will give me the answers I need and the peace of mind that the car is safe, after having this bodge job done.
