Im quite new to the forum and have a '98 Bravo HLX which I bought in Feb, predictably the rear wiper didnt work so I got a new(er) motor and tried to fit it. At first it didnt work but after taking apart and cleaning it works ok, the problem now is it only has two settings which are intermittent and constant, ie no off when ignition is on (intermittent is with switch on steering column in 'on' position and constant is with switch in 'off' position). Plus it seems to be mounted wrong, the wiper arm hits the spoiler every stroke and gets stuck on it on return stroke some times. I have tried to compensate by mounting at an angle but it still hits the spoiler and I got to the point where the blade was'nt actually touching half the glass. I could'nt find any threads on this issue so posted my own. I hope someone knows how to help so thanks to anyone who post an idea.
Cheers guys :)

Sounds to me like you have the wrong wiper motor for your vehicle. If you can see a part number on the motor, then i can find out what car its from. I'm assuming you never removed the newer motor from another Bravo, but bought it either off the shelf or from someone on ebay?

The rear wiper has, intermittant and off. No other settings. Is the wiper blade your using also correct for the car? Some fools sometimes fit Punto wiper arms on the rear, perhaps the previous owner fitted a punto motor and wiper.

The origional motor has a date stamp from '98 when the car was built, the new one has same part number (A563 made by Gate) but a date stamp from '01, the control units are the same too but with different date stamps again. The new one was off ebay and said it was a bravo one, was only one at a reasonable price. I thought it might be that they put another setting on later bravos or maybe its from a Marea?

The wiper arm is different to the one on my Punto, looks same as all ive seen on Bravos so I have no idea why it hits spoiler when mounted on same motor, it just seems very odd!! Have a look at my pics of Bravo.
Also want to add the previous owner had it from new and always used a Fiat specialist for services.
Cheers for your help Joske (y)

MK1 and MK2 motors had different connectors if i remember correctly. So if the motors are identical then the problem must lie with something else. Is there no part number i.e 46532108 or 7781633 on the motors themselves?

MK1 and MK2 rear wipers are identical therefore the problem must lie with the motor.

Does your motor look identical to this one...

this is one from a Punto....

It looks like the 1st one, I cant see a part number anywhere on it.
These photos are of the origional motor unit which is identical to the new one (its in the car atm) I will get some photos of the new one up if needs be.
Cheers for your help!!

Anyone got any ideas? It seems odd that both new and old motors are identical and yet the new one is playing up, though I never had the old one working so dont know how it functioned.
Thanks for any info.

I've done some looking around and found you must have the wrong one. Simply because the main shaft seems to be too long. Heres a picture of the one mine looks like.

You can see its a short and stubby shaft, it has the rear washer jet built into it, it has the washer jet pipe coming off it and three mounting screws.

Please check your motor to this one....

Wot do you reckon my motors from then? Maybe a Brava or Marea? Got to be something produced at least from '98 to '01. It would explain why it wont mount right and probably is meant to have an extra speed setting in the car it was made for.
Cheers for your help buddy, im gona moan at the person I bought it from and check with previous owner who put 1st one in.
Thanks again (y)

Before you go complaining, can you tell me if the wiper motor has the rear washer jet built into it? Them motors could be from any Fiat, silly thing is the Bravo was revamped a bit in 1999 so they could of made changes. I know MK1 and MK2 wiper motors have different part numbers.

Yeah I just spent some time tinkering and have found the part number on the newer motor, its 9030146-1. I fiddled with the wires to see if that hepled but nothing. Its got an orange, a black and a white and orange wire going in to a three pin connector.
Also I looked a bit closer at the pic you put up and the only difference is the plastic bit on the shaft, I think they are both the same shaft length as that one. The washer is built in too.
I may try 'alter' my wiper arm so it doesnt hit the spoiler, still will be no use if I cant get it to turn off though.
Cheers :)

Im pretty sure it is, if you wana check it against yours its 45cm from base to tip an heres a pic too (realised I dont have any pics of the boot on my profile)

Yeah mines 45cm long too. So the wipers fine. This is an odd one. Looking at the pictures of the wiper motor, do you have the rubber grommits and screws for bolting it to the car.

The wiring issue could be down to the wiper stalks, as they can go faulty. Experienced anything else wierd? I.e headlights not working or centre console playing up?

Funny you mention that, my headlights are quite annoying, when dipped beam is on it can sometimes go back to sidelights only, usually when the stalk is nudged or indicator put on. It seems to be a dodgy connection on the switch but I couldnt get any closer than looking at the wires behind the wheel 'cos im not really comfortable with tampering with my airbag as I think thats only way of getting further. I was hoping it wouldnt be a stalk issue as I dont wana effect the airbag but if you know how to get in there without touching it im all ears (or eyes? lol).
Yeah I got all the right fixtures I think, one grommit, one washer and one screw per mount on the motor unit, I tried to compensate by putting an extra grommit or washer on certain mounts to push wiper arm out a bit but still hits spoiler, I think it may be it just doesnt flex around the windscreen properly, I assume its ment to pass just under spoiler.
Cheers again dude!!
