While adjusting my mirror a couple of weeks ago it fell off the windscreen :S looking at it I have no idea how it was on in the first place there's no adhesive or anything on the screen or the mirror ?
Any ideas how to get it stuck back on ? I've got a suction one in the mean time but would prefer the proper one if I'm honest :)

Tom

We replaced a windscreen a while ago and they didn't get it right- fell off. The Halfords kit - superglue and gauze - wasn't much better. Now it's stuck on with epoxy and no gauze. There is glue on the mirror holder and you need to remove it carefully and then preclean with nail varnish remover or meths. The mirror separates from the holder over a retracting ball type thing. Let the epoxy go tacky and tape the holder to the screen. For good measure I put a small bit of silicone grease on the mirror swivel ball to reduce the load when adjusting.

Excuse my incompetence but on the attached photo do you remove all the black layer or is there a layer of adhesive on the black thing hahaha ?? And how did you remove it ? :) cheers

The black layer is the remains of the failed glue system. Peel or gently scrape it off to bare metal. The metal bit slides out of the mirror stalk so you only need to glue it minus the weight of the mirror to the screen.

Sorry for being a pain but do you have to detach the actual mirror from stalk ? Or do you just attach the whole lot ??

Tom

note which way the pad would be on the window
i got it wrong once
then remove it with a screwdriver
buy the proper window glue from somewhere like halfords and stick the pad on the glass
when cured mount the mirror to the triangle shaped bit
do NOT place the triangle too high up the screen because mirror slides on from top and it wont fit

see done it all before and failed
do NOT use superglue it causes glass on screen to go brittle

Hi mate I haven't got round to reattaching it yet I've been faffing around with some led bulbs haha :) I still need to buy something to stick it to the window with some epoxy probably but once it's done ill update on here :) you doing it on a GP or Mk2 ?

Mine is on the MK2 too. I've tried the pads, some glues and they were useless. I tried some Evo-Stick Impact and that worked, but now the sun is out it's melting the glue :(

find your nearest branch of auto glass or similar and ask them to stick it back on usually they will do it very cheap or even free and it won't fall off again, these kits you can buy are crap and if you get it wrong it will fall off again and again

if it's any cancellation i don't have one :D one early morning last year i reached over passenger to get something and knocked it right off the windscreen and took a chunk out of windscreen, so i brought one of those cheap ones with a suction pad i've used ever since cause auto glass said it wasn't possible to put it back on unless i put a new windscreen in :bang:

ah well...
