Hiya People,

The other day I tried to change the rear suspension bushes without any joy.

I had purchased them from the uk and was told they will fit the barchetta but they are labeled as fiat punto fit.

I got as far as removing front and rear from one side with great difficulty and the new ones would not fit as are aprox 1-2mm larger.

Has anyone changed theirs and if so where have you purchased them from.

My nephew mechanic says we could get them to fit if we take down and remove the complete rear suspension/ axle and have them pressed in.

Any comments to this would be greatly appreciated.

I have no experience of fitting Barchetta/Punto bushes but have changed a number on other vehicles. If they can be 'pressed' in, could they be pulled through with a threaded bar, a large washer, and a couple of nuts? On the Range Rover, which has numerous bushes, it helped to sand a very small chamfer off the leading edge and lubricate them with silicone spray. If I am saying something obvious, I apologise.

hi Bumble,

we did try this method, but the 1mm difference seemed to avale us.

I had to bang the old ones to get them out , and then used that method to push them back in again.

couldnt get enough leverage/ pressure to get the new ones in.

Nephew says to remove the complete subframe and have them pressed in.

Is this logical or have i the wrong ones. does say on the pakaging for fiat punto, are they the same.
 
1mm oversize, doesnt seem too much as the old ones will be compressed anyway. As for the parts being the same, I don't know mate. There was a thread three pages back about radius arms for the B being the same as those for a Punto and the answer was that they're different. Personally, I would be trying other methods before resorting to removing the subframe. I have fabricated a square frame from steel angles and used a bottle jack to press bushes in, but this involves some work in itself. There is a lot of knowledge on here and someone is bound to have a solution. I appreciate your frustration mate... nothing worse than having to reassemble something with old parts, it's a good job you didn't burn them out. Good luck.

Well according to the shop 4 parts website they list the same parts for the Punto and Barchetta swing arms.
Remember bushes need to be a tight fit in order for them to do their job properly.
 
Have you looked at the part numbers on ePer? I have had a quick look but, for some reason, can only access page one of the three suspension pages. However, the Barchetta and Mk1 Punto rear trailing arms have different parts no.s. They do share the same nut and bolt though which would tend to suggest the bushes may be the same. It may be worth while persisting with the ePer pages, which I have found difficult to access. Or, ask someone on the Punto forum if they can tell you the swinging arm bush housing internal diameter and compare this with yours. Apart from that, don't know what to suggest mate.

It may sound silly Steve, but have you scrolled down to the bottom of the page?
There are usually 3 boxes at the bottom, one for each page. If you click each box it changes the page.
 
I would use a sanding disc and remove a very slight chamfer from the leading edge of the bush. Use a flap wheel to thoroughly clean the housing out. Use some vaseline to lubricate the bush and a G-Clamp to start pushing it in (this is beginning to sound like some other form of website) When the bush has started, revert to a length of threaded bar to pull it through. If the bush begins to bellow out, you can put a jubilee clip around it a few millimetres from the housing and try again.

It is pretty normal to have difficulty geting new bushes to fit even with studding, nuts and heavy washers or large engineering vice.

Simpler to remove and take to engineering shop with a large press.

Old thread, but I will change the rear subframe bushes, and trailing arm bearings.
I am confused about the bushes, and what to order.
Are all 4 the same? and which is the correct part?
There seem to be, 3 version for punto, which is supposed to be the same as barchetta.
