Technical Rear brake caliper

Hi all,
Went to change the rear pads on my 2006 1.9 Multijet. After doing the passenger side, with little difficulty, I went to tackle the driver side and that's where the trouble began. The piston simply refused to rewind so I removed the caliper so I could clamp it. After approx. 2 hours, it still wouldn't budge :bang:. Is there anything I can do with it or do i need to get a new one (or one from a breakers yard)?

Are you turning the pistons the correct way?

The left and right sides have to be turned in opposite directions to wind the pistons in.

I am. I'm using a brake rewinding tool!

Likely needs a new caliper then.

You could try pumping the piston out of the caliper to see what's seized, but I've never been able to re-assemble the triple concentric screw thread handbrake mechanism on any that I've dismantled.

are you using a generic handbrake rewind tool or a proper kit that has both handed threads?
from memory the left side of the car (n/s looking towards the engine) is anticlockwise, and the right side is clockwise.
i originally broke my first caliper doing this job many years ago.

You are right. Both calipers are rewinded (rewound?) in "forward" direction, depending on side of car.

Stilo rear calipers are prone to sticking. On my 3rd. Dump it and by another caliper. Not worth the hassle of trying to mend IMO!!

Try to release the niple that's usualy used to let the air out, and then press and turn. If the brake oil is geting out and the piston geting in, then the problem is the short rubber hose conected to the caliper thtat is jammed and not alowing the oil to go back!
