hey guys

a few days ago I started to get a rattle like I was dragging tin cans behind me or like two plastic bottles rattlein its been to Fiat three times and they can't find it dose anyone have any ideas as it's really loud after an hour or so's driving

cheers guys

the rattle to me sounds like the heat shield but Fiat have apparently investigated that and the exhaust and passed them so could I demand they replace parts anyway or what, as the rattle is now there 24/7 but they claim not to hear it they have told me I cannot use another garage cause of warranty is that true?

only owned my qubo for about three months and iv had more trouble with this than my ten year old punto

what you need to do is locate where the noise is coming from, you say it sounds like your dragging a tin can round but then say like plastic bottle.

steps to take:
get a urchin or small person to sit ion the boot while you drive , if its coming from rear of car they will be able to see which side it is or if its just at the back empty the spare wheel well take out the spare and all the tools makes a nice seat to sit in lol ( well thats asuming you have one )

if it is coming from one side remove the inner panel or carpet and with a mirror and torch see if you can see down all the openings at that side (inside the body panels) this is because stuff could have fallen down there, maybe only a screw or similar but it could be rattleing against the side panel, if you can see anything but cant get it out either get a tin of spray glue or spray underseal and spray it, when it sets it wont be able to move anymore then see if the noise has gone.
make sure you drive it without all spare wheel stuff in as it may be the tool kit or jack thats rattleing.
alternatly take to a friendly garage and see if he will test drive it and see what it is, if he finds the fault bung him £20 take back to fiat and tell them what it is.
you didnt say how old the car was if its still under warrenty ring or email fiat uk direct and tell them your issues, they are pretty good at sorting them out, remember your local main dealer is just a garage that has a franchise to sell fiat cars they are not FIAT UK.

hope this gives you ideas

its coming from the rear passenger side it optionally sounded like plastic bottles but now now developed into a constant mental rubbing sound. I have removed the back seats and everything else in the rear of the vehicle and the sound is still there.

I did do as you suggested and went to the garage in used with my old car they took it for a spin said possibly the heat shield and stuck it up on a ramp but couldn't see anything obvious so it's back to Fiat again will contact Fiat UK tho as I can never get a courtesy car even tho I get booked in advance week or so before

if it is now a metal rubbing sound and its got rear discs i would jack up passenger rear enough to rotate wheel freely as could be a loose back plate / dust cover that was loose but now is touching the disc, another thing to try is drive down the road slowly so its making the noise and gently pull the handbrake on holding the button in just enough for it to start to slow the car then see if the noise has stopped as it could be a broken shoe holding spring if it has rear shoes as well, wont be the spring making the noise but could be a loose shoe rattling about on the backplate then has now started rubbing on the disc.

jack it up and see what happens, put car in gear before you do and chock other wheel cos you will need handbrake off to spin wheel

My qubo went back to fiat today who apparently checked everything and can not find anything so dont know what to do now at my wits end

so does it get worse after a while ( as your 1st post suggested!)

or is it's there all the time now ?,

if it's there all the time..take ALL the tools . jack . spare wheel, etc out ( put in garage/shed) for 10 minutes, and get driving,
maybe even fold the rear seat ..so you get a better listen..!!,

could save you another wasted day at FIAT,
Charlie

Hey sorry been busy with work due to weather

the rattle did seem to become more obvious after an hour or.so now it seems to be there constantly, i have emptied my boot removed the tyre pump as I dont have a spare wheel and I have even removed the rear seats completely and the rattle is still there.

fiat have apparently checked everything underneath and say all is fine it's been to them four times now. I have also taken it to a trusted garage who also thought heat shield but they now suspect its a dry bush or something so its going into them on monday

Hey

a local garage haa found my rattle its the boot they seem to think its slightly warped but fiat refuse to do anything what can I do

hi,
I take it you mean the rear door / tailgate..??

all depends on how old, service history, etc,

 BUT if it's just rattling in it's lock-mounts you SHOULD be able to adjust the rattle out..!!,

Charlie

Hi
