Just completed the last round of the summer championship came third in class :
behind a ka and a 1400 nova both cars running diffs and more power. Conditions were terrible heavy and continuous rain left the surface very slippery, suited fwd cars as all the gutters were pushed to the outside of the corners leaving reasonable grip at the apex, didnt suit the rwd cars at all, I may never get the chance to pass a 2l mk 2 escort on a stage again.
It took best part of an hour to clean the car when I got it home, it was only then I realised how lucky I was as both the oil cooler and radiator were blocked with mud on the bottom halves of the matrix's, fortunate the course wasnt long enough to overheat. I did have some problems as is usual, I put the front rhs strut up through the bonnet a big washer on top of thr shock has cured that, the starter motor was so lazy it wouldnt start the car, possilbly the mud getting into the bushes and preventing contact
have a replacement to go in. Worst of all was the gearbox it sounded like a bag of spanners on full spin
I have removed the box and stripped it I cannt see anything obviously wrong, all bearing are intact none of the gears appear to be stripped and there were no metal filings in the oil. Any idears anyone. The winter series is around nutts corner a tarmac race track used with the rallycourse part. I have the front brakes of a deisel tipo giving a one inch increase in disc size to fit, along with a gas flowed head and a set of cut slicks, all good fun for as little money as possible.
