Hallo good people. My 2007 mk3 Panda radio is not working. The clock display on the dash is flashing when ignition is turned on and there is a clicking noise and the needles are jumping. All fuses in compartment and engine bay checked and all fine. Disconnected battery for 30 min but still same problem. Anyone can help please

“The clock display on the dash is flashing”

And

“clicking noise “

and

“the needles flicking ”

All sounds like a

Dead or flat battery

Check the earth connection (negative) from the battery to the chassis, run a temporary jump lead from the neg terminal on the battery to the engine, if that fixes it then you have a failed or corroded main earth cable.

Done that and cleaned both terminals on battery. Car starts and runs perfectly fine. Only issue is the radio that has no power and the clock display flashing contineously. When ignition is switched on, the dash needles jumps 3 to 4 times and you can hear a sound simular to a relay. Car then starts perfectly

Is it the standard radio?
If not, try disconnecting it.
Otherwise, it might be best to (try to) get fault codes read. Might fail if there is a wiring or module fault, but that would point at the problem area.
Edit: have you checked for water in the windscreen scuttle area (search duckbills on the forum if in doubt)

The needles are jumping because the battery isn’t providing enough volts to the body computer while cranking

The clock is flashing because there isn’t enough volts to keep the body computers real time clock alive while cranking

99% of the time it will be the battery. Even if the volts are okay at rest

Have you tried another battery.

What are the volts while cranking

Do you have a volt/multi meter

I will try another battery. Thanks for advice

I still use this as my main help in diagnosing a battery. Just watch the LEDs drop while cranking if it gets to the red on it’s probably on it’s last legs.

Or log the voltage data via a scan tool

Pretty much anything else can give you false results leading to chasing your tail and wasting a lot of time

When I have two car here I do swap the batteries over as it eliminates any doubt

There are other rare reasons for the body computer to receive poor voltage. But it’s good to eliminate the most plausible one first.

Simply charging a battery tells you very little (though some chargers will issue warnings if cells are weak). Jump leads to a known good battery will prove the issue. Do not start the donor car. If the problems goes away your battery is weak. If it doesn't, disconnect your battery and try it with the good battery alone. If that solves it your old battery has shorted out cells. If that's no different you need to look at the wring and charging systems.

There was a time when Tanya Batteries had Yuasa Silver HSB012 for about £60. They are currently near enough the same price as Halfords.
