My fm radio reception has started to go all weird (I've got the one you get with the CD changer).
In London where reception is good, everything is fine. When I drive off into the big blue, things go all wobbly and the reception gets worse and worse. RDS doesn't seem to be working properly - it's switched on, but most of the time there's a line crossing out the RDS icon on-screen.
Anyone know the detailed stuff?

Hi,

The problem is normally the aerial in the car, the window ones are normally a lot less sensitive than mast type aerials. I believe they also have a signal amp, so it would be worth checking that.

The other thing I noticed about the radio is that unlike lots of radios, it store the station ID as part of the memory setting. This means it is slow to re-tune.

Good luck.

Andy

I've also seen similar (but not so pronounced) behaviour - the window-mounted aerial is more direction sensitive in poor-signal scenarios.

John ;)

Well, I just had my 12,500 mile service, and I asked them to fix the radio and fit the rear socket. Imagine my surprise when I picked up the car and was told:

Can't find nuffink wrong wiv the radio, mate.
There aren't no wires under the blanking plate, nuffink we can do.

So now I'm driving around with crap radio reception and a car specc'd under what I bought it for. Nice, eh?
