Technical Radio CD problem

After 4yrs of sterling service the Radio/CD Tuner (single front loader) fitted to my 03 Stilo JTD 115 without warning went on strike.
Power it up and the back light illuminates on the display but nothing else happens.
No LCD display, No radio, no CD, no nothing just an illuminated back light.
Having just spent the last week trying to get the "*******" thing out of the dash I came accross this forum whilst looking for something else,
yes you guessed it rear suspension bushes!
Are Fiat Dealers under instruction to
"see if you can flog them an axle instead of the bushes"? I wonder?
Back to the matter at hand my busted radio, anybody had a similar problem or any ideas as to what the cause might be.
I look forward to any assistance as I leave now to try the "cocktail umbrellas sticks solution to removing it from the dash" on it.

there are quite a few older threads about removing the stereo, have a quick search. i used a coat hanger cut into 4 pieces. you have to push them in more than you think, also sometimes pushing from behind is required depending on how tight the unit is in place.

i've had the blank screen a few times, i just found turning on and off a few times solved the problem.

Same for me - leaving a CD playing when stopping seems the main cause.
