just wondered if anybody can clarify something for me.

since ive had the punto, when turning it on ive always waited for all the lights on the dash (the ones too say everything is ok)to go off and then i turn the car on. is that right?

my mate saw me do that yesterday and said "i thought u was turning a diesel just because u waited a while to turn it on".

he said i dont have to wait for all the lights to go off.is that true?

Good question mate, i'd like it if someone could explain the pros and cons of doing this!

I've ever done it in either of the cars I have had (both petrol) or any of the delivery vans from work (diesel)

It dosent matter if you wait or not in a petrol car. Diesels you are 'supposed' to wait until the glow plug light goes off, but in the uk they will start fine if you dont wait.

I tend to wait a few seconds until you hear the fuel pump stop whiring before turning the key to start the car. A bit of a habbit i got into after i had a dieing battery last winter.

I always wait abit too, most probably because when i first got the car it never seemed to like the key as the code light would stay on for a long time.

The car has now gotten used to the key but i always seem to wait a few seconds.
