Hello all

I'm not one to ignore a bargain, but with car parts you tend to get what you pay for. So With tyres, I've always gone for so called premium brands.

When looking at tyres in 145/70 r12 size available here in Uk, it seems that's impossible, as only low and mid priced tyres are available. They seem to be mostly from Asian based manufacturers, the majority of which I haven't heard of...

Does anyone have experience of running any of the above choices and therefore any recommendations??

Otherwise I'll be picking on mixture of price, grades and dB level, which is probably a bit hit and miss! ;) ;)

cheers, Steve

The only brand I have heard of and used before are Falken. I ran these on a Mondeo and found them to be really good for the price. Have you tried vintage tyres?

Nankang have a fairly good reputation; there is also a company called:-
'Blackcircles.com'---give them a look

Steve........are you still looking for wheels - or has purchase been made?

I've found a couple of sets if your still searching........;)

I had Ovation on my old car, decent considering the ditch hunter rep

If you're going by brand Falken would be the obvious choice although Maxxis are used by Japspeed drift team so cant be that bad

no idea on the rest of them

Same here, I'd heard of Federal, Maxxis & Falken before

Thanks - they are also the cheapest :) and have ok ratings for the various conditions. I just looked at blackcircles, it seems they no longer state the brand, or at least they didn't for this size. They just gave two options, cheap or quality to select from. They seem competitive though.

Hi Andrew, yes I decided to go for Lesmo Campagnolo alloys made by Stilauto...

Falken do appear to have a good reputation, only experience of Maxxis is people using them for off-road tyres.

Thanks for all of your suggestions so far :)

Adding to this thread, has anybody had any experience of running 165/60 12's?

I saw a pic of this Giannini, and as well as noticing the wider tyres, I also recognised the tread pattern as Yokohama (Sad, I know) so it wasn't hard to work out that the tyre size is 165/60. Almost the same diameter as 145/70's (-1%)

Obviously the tyre is 20mm wider so will sit ~10mm further in and run the risk of rubbing on full lock. However, as I'm fitting front discs, I suspect these will push it out by probably a similar distance.

Naturally I'll measure everything up when the wheels and discs arrive, but in the meantime I wondered if anyone had any experience of running these??

cheers, Steve

The discs that I have (yet to be fitted) are actually THINNER than the standard drums where they fit over the hubs--this will have the effect of pulling the wheels IN.

The purpose of any wheel offset is to place the centre of the wheel running width over the centre of the wheel bearing. This allows the bearing to support the car, without undue twisting forces.

Many original Minis have been fitted with wider wheels, or spacers. (The spacers were at one time a genuine accessory) This has the effect of significantly shortening the wheel bearing life. Consider this when choosing wider wheels.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for taking the time to post up. That is a very keen price, too late for me though as I ordered mine last week. £315 inc shipping, so happy.

Barring anything that crops up, or I've forgotten, and the tyres that I want to measure up first, I have ordered all of my parts now. :)

Just need the 500 to arrive, Duncan's delivering it a week on Saturday, and then I can crack on.

By the way, have you dealt with seller above? If yes, how was it. It's always good to know suppliers that are good to deal with.

cheers, Steve

Just putting this in on the tyre front.

be it 125R12 or 145/70R12, we all know that it is Pirelli that we really want.

oo then lets get some super cool Borrani wire wheels.
