Prices don't seem right as looking at there website even the cheapest diff they do is £550 plus VAT an example of which is the QDF14K which fits Mini's which has a huge market place, with most of there diffs being either £585, £645 or the £775 plus VAT and POA so even more expensive.

This diff is not listed on there site and was only made after 20 were ordered. The part number, which is known to us who bought them after inputting on there site gives nothing, I don't think it has been posted on here and Quaife said they wouldn't sell to public for minimum of 3 months so as to give the people who bought more than one some time to sell them on.

I've got a feeling the price they may having given you was for the QDH2K £585 + VAT with a small discount as this is listed for various Alfa's and Fiats, but could be wrong.
I specifically referenced the QDH3K and the forum group buy and Nigel's name to make sure we were talking about the same thing. I understand that Quaife said they wouldn't sell it or it would be very expensive, but this is not what was said to me as a buying customer.

Flippin' heck! I was just trying to help RobW out without causing this argument that I knew would ensue since I was on your side of the fence until I checked with Quaife.

I don't believe there has been an argument, I think you are being a little sensitive. I was only saying that price quoted seemed odd given there will always be a limited market for these diffs, something Quaife knew when making sure we ordered 20 to make it happen which would have gone towards the tooling required to make them, and as such smaller quantities attract higher prices, but at least the tooling is in place to make future batches in smaller numbers as & when they get enough orders to merit it, which will benefit future owners who wish the improvements a LSD can offer over an open doff. And that if the price was correct, Quaife have renegaded on what we were told which is a little disappointing as means we still made a saving, just not as large as we had been lead to believe.

We have just sold both our spare diffs to a guy in Germany who was more than happy to pay a good price for them, not sure what he is using them on but the deal has a been a week in the making.

We'll have to wait and see what RobW finds! It's difficult to get any decent discount from Quaife since there are so few options in their marketplace, so I think you all still did well. As you say, you had to do it as otherwise they probably wouldn't have ever made the tooling them.

I contacted Quaife about this LSD. They still have them in stock Price is 770GBP including VAT.

Anyone tried Phantom Grip on these cars ?

I bought a Seicento race car 2 days ago, and I'l like to install some sort of LSD into it for next years autox events.

1368 16v, very early into production. I took the combination from a car with 3000 miles on it, so fairly sure they are an original combination.

Trying to get my head around measuring for pre-load. Thanks to kritip for posting up that little Alfa workshop page. The measurement points don't make complete sense to me, but should do when it's on my bench, I suppose. I've had to put it all back together for now as I have a trackday on Saturday. However, from the looks of it, this could technically be done with the 'box in situ?

I spoke with someone who has used Phantom Grip on a 500+bhp Mitsubishi FTO and said he loved it, especially when he had low power, ie upto 300bhp. He does Ten of the Best in the FTO and as he now has 600+bhp but has changed to Quaife like all his competitors run as the Phantom Grip was getting pretty close to its limits. As most will know Ten of the Best is not just about straight line speed but includes handling as well, so a well sorted all round LSD is a must.

I may in the future buy one of these for the Seicento to see whats its like, if its as good as I've been told may prove to be a very competitively priced alternative that for those without a bolt in crown wheel much easier to fit with no extra added costs.

A good point about the bonded crownwheel. Have you/ your friend fitted your diff yet? What was the technique used to determine the correct shim thickness/ pre-load?

I am surprised non-one else has posted any installation comments or results from the 15 or so buyers of the diff. Is everyone leaving the job till deepest winter perhaps? Changed their mind? Like looking at it too much to put in the car?

How about you Kritip?

I've been holding off from fitting 'cos the car I was originally going to fit into was rear ended & written off. I'm sticking with 5 speed in the new Seicento but I need to finish swapping all my old parts over first.

I was hoping somebody would have fitted one into a 5 speed by the time I get to it & I'd have more idea what part numbers to buy!!!

I gave it to J333VO's mate and he did an exemplary job of installing it.

It's huge fun too. Makes the 500 a much more enjoyable beast to chuck around.

Well I will be fitting mine soon, when I have the time. Will be within a month though. I will post up info and part numbers when I do it to help you and others.

Yeah, I read your write-up and the rest of this thread. It was very convincing. I am glad it has made such a difference!

I'm excited about fitting mine and just want more feedback, whether good or bad to perhaps try to avoid any problems or pitfalls others have come up against.

Another update. I was at Bedford Autodrome on the weekend doing my ARDS test for national b race license (passed it!). After the test was over I got the afternoon open pit lane session for a discount. The track was drying by this point and the 500 was wearing the Proxes 4 tyres which are nothing write home about. On previous days, in the tight corners, of which Bedford has quite a few, there was no hope. Spin, smoke, wasted energy, steering wheel jumping around. This time was a night and day difference. Just slingshots out of corners. Truly worth it. I can't speak highly enough of it. :D

Edit: If anyone wants to know what they feel like to drive they're welcome to come have a go. PM me. I'm near Jct 10 of the M1.
