Hi all, have had loads of fun with my 96 Punto ELX since I bought it 4 weeks ago. Unfortunately, and without warning, my front wipers have stopped working. I've checked the fuses, the rear wipers and wash work, as does the front wash - but the wipers stubbornly refuse to budge

Having looked back through similar threads, would I be right to think it's probably either: (1) the linkage or, (2) the motor? Haven't as yet taken any bits off the car as not the most mechanically-minded of people ...

Any thoughts?

P.S. MOT due in couple of days and rain-clouds gathering (literally)

Thanks custard boy, just listened and nothing bar a tiny (and I mean barely audible) sound of electric trying to fire up the wiper motor. Guess that means that it's done for ...

Next question then if I may: Where's the best place to get a 2nd hand wiper motor or, should I not risk it and go for new? Thank once again.

I had a problem with the linkages being siezed up and dirty. I cleaned them out, and it fixed the issue for a week . However, it seems that the motor also fails soon after the linkages get dirty/rusty. So unfortunately U end up having to change the motor anyway.

As with anything electrical, you have tried hitting it have you? If there is any dirt stuck between the cummutator and brushes, and good, sharp slap with something firm but not too hard may be enough to dislodge it. Other than that, a new motor from the scrapyard should see it right.

Hi guys,

One of the wipers on our car has decided to pack in, any ideas why this could be? As I say it is only one the other is working absolutely fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated especially as it has started blooming snowing

Cheers

Linkage has become detached because either the spindle is seized or it was switched on when frozen, or even both.

Cheers
