As an Italian car enthusiast I've recently bought a beautiful 2014 Fiat Punto TwinAir for my daily commute. All is fine, however the 5th and mainly the 6th gear is very difficult to use. I suspect the "reverse gear" cable is set "too tight" as, when I test the gears on a parking lot, I see the reverse light flickering on and off (when it's dark) when trying to shift into 5th or 6th gear. This would also make sense why the 6th gear is blocked while driving, as the 6th gear is also the reverse gear when lifting the plastic ring on the gear shifter.

Going into reverse gear is very smooth and easy, going into 5th is doable, and going into 6th only works sometimes when coming from 5th gear but never goes smooth. If I let the gear lever go to neutral again and then go to 6th gear, the gearbox doesn't allow it.

I think relaxing the reverse shifting cable, if possible, could solve this problem.
Does anyone know if and how this can be done?

Thanks!!

I recently fitted new gear cables to my 2010 Doblo 1.6 six speed, there was no adjustment under the bonnet at the gearbox end , but when fitting at gear lever end there is a "gate adjustment" on the cable outer in the plastic grooves.
So you should be able to adjust side to side , but not the throw into gear.:)
