General punto not turning over

ive got a punto thats been stood for a while when i try to turn over the engine all i get is a click from under the bonet. ive bought a starter motor off ebay swapped em over and the problems the same. any ideas?:bang:

Battery, loose connections, poor engine earth for starters.

Is the battery fully charged? also take the earth straps/ leads off the body work gear box ect under the bonnet and clean up the metal re attach and put some grease or vasaline on the connections to help protect them that could be your problem

A quick test - clip a jump lead between battery earth and engine block. If the starter works better you have a bad earth.

But batteries do not like standing unused. When they get too flat they often will not take a charge as the charged/discharged chemical change can become permanent or one or more cells can be down. Try an optimate charger but also try a known good battery. It its too big use jump leads but with the old Punto battery disconnected.

If jump leading from another car don't run its engine as this can sometimes mess up the electronics.
