Here's the deal i bought a new Punto MIA (2001 1.2 8V) and there's a few little nick-naks need doing to it to sort it our proper..... Don't know bout you's lot but i just hate it when some thing just don't work properly!! :bang: The cars sound mechanically just these few little things that are starting to grind on me......

1) The driver side door handle and little dent.

The handle on the door doesn't return to the right position when you open it. It just stays open so i can't shut the door after i climb in unless i push it back down. (the snaps below show in more detail.) I think it's just a spring or summit but whats the best way to go around replacing it as a DIY option would save me paying labour costs. (i'm tight....)

Second is a small dent in the driver side door. I was just wondering if there's a product that i could look out for that would help me to fill this as i don't think it can be knocked out... I'm thinking poly-filler type product. Then sand and spray?? seems like that's all it'd would need. Again the photos below show the dent.

2) There's a problem with the gear stick, The gate that you would lift to put the car into reverse gets stuck and you have to push it back down. Just wondering if anyone has any idea how i could fix it?? are will this would mean taking it to a dealership? (photos below, gears are in N but don't think it makes a difference...)

Cheers in advance! (y)

You would prob get more advice if this was in the punto section...

I had the same thing happened to my door handle, but i snapped it off in the cold weather. I dont think there is a way of repairing it. I got another door handle from a scrap yard for a fiver and fitted it myself. there are guides for this in the guides section i think.

Hope this helps.

Yeah mate!! much appreciated (y)

How would i go about getting the thread moved?? Should i just speak to a moderator??

2 out of 3 of your problems can be solved with some good old WD40.

My handles and gear gaiter thingy did the same things when i Bought mine but spray some wd40 on them and work it in and they sort themselves out.

As for your dent, personally I would go to a bodyshop as DIY jobs often look second rate, saying that though if your feeling confident then go for it (y)

Nothing like the quick fix eh mate? lol, WD40 if thats all i need i can have that done tonight (y) cheers mate! That'll be simple enough to do! :)

I'm gonna try going down the DIY route like cause i love it. Just wondering a few things, If i fill/sand/spray will the whole door need re-sprayed? :)bang: < if it does). How will i get to know the exact colour of my punto so i don't end up ruining the whole door. lol (which is something i would end up doing)...... And i'm guessing halfords or places similar will sell what i'm after?

(y) Thanks in advance!

do a quick search on the forum cos there are loads of threads on this. I'm no expert on bodywork matters but I would suggest spraying the just the dent. The reason for this is because the paint will have aged on you car so even if you buy the correct paint colour it will look slightly different, having a whole door a different colour to the rest of your car is more noticable than just a small patch.

As for finding the paint code, as its a MK2, its on a sticker on the underside of the bonnet, take the colour name and code to Halfords and they will mix you a can up. Might want to get some primer and laquer while your there (y)

Did a few searches on the forumn smokey didn't really find much? :( I found a little guide to doing colour coated wing mirrors..... So if i've got some left over paint might give it a go. lol but still might not be looking hard enough for body work guides :spin:.......

I'm gonna try and get to halfords tomorrow though see how the blokes down there can help me out..... But so i don't get stuck for this that and everything in the shop what am i looking for?? will i need primer, and laquer as well as paint? or just primer....

I've found a few products on halfords website. but i don't wanna paste links because i know some forums don't like it.

Any way any help will be great (y) thinking of getting the dent sorted first, cause it's probably the most work. (and were expecting decent weather tomorrow.) lol

Weekend didn't quite go as planned... i got the gate closing on it's own give it a good old soak of WD40. (y) worked a dream!

Just got a question for all you Punto owners out there,

Heaters warm up no problem, Just the fans aren't working.... Is this a fuse? or could it be something else?

when you say the heaters are working but the fans aren't, what do you mean? To me this is the same thing.

Do you mean the air heats up but won't blow?

yeah, heats up but won't blow.

Another problem now  with my tinkering today

i've accidently pulled out the fuse for the radio. and now it's asking for the code.... :bang: i've contacted my fiat dealer and they say it will cost me £15 to send the log book to some security network thingy, is there away around this charge? like i just send the log book instead of fiat?

(y) cheers in advance.

The door handle problem occured on my Punto last year, I think it got fixed when it went for its service...

(y) Sorry guys! been away myself for a few days, not had much time on my PC. (doesn't help i've just got xbox live set up (y)it's great fun, but you don't half lose track of time.....)

The heater fans i have fixed! (y) wasn't a fuse at all. There's a little connector in the passanger footwell that just needed pushing in, it sometimes falls loose going over speed bumps and things so just trying to figure out a more perminate fix. (punto wiggle gets it done for now. lol)

As for radio codes i've still got the original Fiat Blaupunkt radio, haven't looked at that link yet boss.. but will do when i'm finished writing this

Cheers again! :slayer:

just wondering where did you spray the wd40 on the door handles. ive had the door handle problem for ages but just put up withit lol.

I haven't fixed the door handles just yet, I've only sprayed the underside of the gear gate to free that up..

I would just guess aim it at the back of the handle when it's up and just jimmy it up and down untill it moves freely, I've been trying to read up on installing central locking so might just replace the handles after a trip to the scrap yard when i get the parts i need. lol (y)

Yeah exactly, just lock the door, lift the handle up and spray underneath it then pull it and let go until it is free.

I quite often do all handles, locks, door hinges and catches with WD40 just to keep them from seizing;)

Yeah! (y) did that after i did the gate. Left the handle out like cause i might be replacing it if i can get central locking fixed...... And didn't fancy wasting my WD40.

Still looking for a decent filling product for body work as i get paid soon :slayer: so might do that this weekend! So can anyone recommend a product?

Cheers in advance. (y)
